You're not going to get what you thought you would. Systems that ship with Reader do not come with the Latitude ON hardware. They do come pre-wired though so it should be a 2 minute install.

    EDIT:

Why would they not charge you when you need additional hardware? Of course it's not going to be free. I would think that updates to Latitude ON would be free though as those are basically the same as a BIOS update (though probably much larger).

There's nothing in that document that says it is possible to upgrade from one to the other without additional hardware. All it says is that you can upgrade from reader to the full version if you've got an E4200 or E4300 and that if you have the full Latitude ON, that it's flash upgradable if they update the software.

As to your paying 70€ for reader, that doesn't make sense since it's freely downloadable from Dell's Support web site and ships with every E4300 (which I believe is what you ordered, from your other posts). It is possible that the SKU for the full version showed up in your sales rep's system and that you actually ordered Latitude ON, not Reader. You should check your invoice though and if it says "Reader" or "Latitude ON Ready" then call back and have them give you your money back.

I have Latitude ON Reader written on the bill, and they told me I would get all the Latitude ON features, and that the upgrade would be free, if there is an upgrade...
Maybe they call it Reader (has reader become ready in us?) or what ever because the whole system is not yet functionnal when you receive it, but once it is, they will send the "rest" of the thing, for free.
In fact, I don't think they had planned to sell two very different products : Reader, and full... The reader thing is just a step... And the 70€ we pay are probably the hardware extension we will receive...

EDIT : the Reader option is now only 10€ :'( Should have waited 2 days more !!!

I was told that my E6400 would have latitude On, and it didn't. I am seeing with Dell for a solution to the problem....

If so, then I want compensation from being lied at by the sales representative, which is something that I am seeing with Dell at this moment.

There's a little info here about how the Reader works: Embedded Linux on an ARM CPU (which I presume is all mounted on a the mini-PCIe card).

Reader = Software (Linux) booting from HDD where you can access contacts and email stored in outlook. NO internet connectivity.... but includes the internal antenna wiring required for internet connectivity if you upgrade to the latitudeON hardware.

LatitudeON = Additional hardware used to run the Linux environment. Can connect to the internet via wifi / WWAN / Ethernet ... can connect to more email account than just outlook... Includes web-browser.

Ready = The motherboard in your machine has a socket to support the latitudeON hardware.

Eeek... Just re-read the guide. Exchange and POP ..... What about IMAP ?!?!? :-/
