Compare the battery dimensions in the owners handbook for each model. If they are the same then I would expect the E7250 battery to work in the E7240.

The E7440 and E7450 batteries are interchangeable so there's a good chance that Dell did the same for the smaller sibling.

    FAN ALWAYS ON

Looking at buying one of these but reviews say the fan is noisy and always running when plugged in.

Does anyone know if subsequent BIOS updates resolve this issue?

    How loud is it anyway?

you can set it to passive or active in windows power options to reduce fan. I prefer a low constant fan at 2.5k rpm I can't hear to one that is quiet then ramps up to 4k rpm.

I received one of the e7520s for work. I was able to upgrade it and put 2x16GB for a total of 32GB using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820156042 even though Intel and Dell don't officially support it (mobile Broadwell timing bug with standards compliant chips). It's been working fine, I posted a 5 star review on Newegg but it is still waiting for review. Now I'm just waiting for a NVME 22.42 drive to come out so I can fill the WWAN with something and get some more IO for VMs. In the meantime I threw in a decent sized SD card and that's been working alright. It'd be nice if Dell made an mSATA or SATA expansion board you could put over the Dock slot (using the eSATA port provided by the dock connector) so you could have a second drive at the cost of a small bump at the back of your laptop (which would help air flow to be honest). The only other things worth noting are there is a mDP port on the right side so you can plug in a good monitor without the dock and there is a charging USB port at the back you can configure in UEFI. Seems to stay cool enough that with c-states and power management disabled it stays at max turbo all of the time. It's also worth noting if you configure MEBx with f2 at boot you can enable the hardware based VNC built into Intel CPUs and control the laptop like it had a server KVM attached (even the BIOS).

Does anyone know if I can swap the non touch 1366x768 screen for the 1920x1080 touch? I'm not sure if both models contain all of the needed connectors. If so does anyone know where I can buy the parts to do this?

Update: I ordered a LP125WF2-SPB2 panel from ebay. Originally these were for the t240. The base (I believe it's called the digitizer?) was slightly thicker and wider so I had to slightly modify the lid. Other than that it popped right in and looks great. If anyone wants any more details on it let me know. Now the only thing I am waiting for is an m.2 pcie SSD that fits in the WWAN slot.

so the e7250 comes in 1080p matte from the factory? The e7240 I have to buy the glossy touchscreen to get 1080p, which is fine but I prefer the better battery life and matte with non touch. Thanks

Also what is the wifi card in the e7250 that has wigig and will work with my wireless dock. Similar to the dell 1601 card in the e7240.

Also wondering what heat is like in the e7250 to get mine to stay in the mid to high 40* celcius while browsing the fan runs near full speed.

e7250 has the official options of 1366x768 matte non touch or 1920x1080 glossy touch. If you want matte 1920x1080 you'll have to get your own panel similar to the one I posted.

It can either come with a Dell 1560 or an Intel 7265.

e7250 gets hot quickly as well though I'm not at max as much as you seem to be on web pages.

Great time to get an E7240. I have just ordered one with i5/1080p at half the price of the E7250 with similar spec albeit the E7250 has some updated components.

In addition the advanced e-dock was a £1 option (normally a shocking £190ish).

Sure, I would have prefered the E7250 but for those on a bit of a budget you can't go wrong!
