FYI: for those of you who don't had a smart card reader in your E7240 I was getting a nasty high pitched vibration from my left speaker, so I took apart the machine thinking I was going to have to hot glue the speaker... turns out they have face smart card occupying the space which vibrates against the chassis, one screw and it's out with no more vibrations.

I also fixed the keyboard flex around my (P)... a new flex has developed around my (F/V) though.

    hi everybody,

I'm going to order an 7440 i7-4600U / Win 7 pro / 256G SSD and need help to understand a couple of things

    - I tried in all possible way to remove the package DDPE from the configuration in the order confirmation I received from their commercial dept (pure nightmare!) but no way... even it is possible to not select it in the configuration they oblige me to have it
    - I asked to not have the option vPro ... see above

    now questions are
    - searching in the web I've found a procedure to remove the DDPE package... seems that I have to follow a precise sequence and should be ok but, in other pages, also somebody declare that is necessary to put hands inside the register file (I would prefer to avoid this activity) ... question: is it possible remove DDPE and are there specific instruction to do that successfully ?

    - again in the web I found somebody telling that if the mobo is Intel based then is possible to disable the vPro modifying a specific setting in the Bios... unfortunately I'm not able to understand if the mobo is Intel (I can't ask Dell tech support... I already call them asking about compatibility with D5000 and WiGig connection and what happen when I close the flip and use only the external monitor... they don't know and don't have hardware to simulate it... it is just call center with very poor product knowledge... at least the support for the Italian market) and hate that functionality that looks like a backdoor :( ... question: is there anybody that know if, and how, is possible to disable the vPro

thanks in advance for your help ..

I'm a Dell customer (typing on a Dell Vostro 1700) but I have to search for your help because in the last period their commercial service & support has become simply absurd and I need to clarify these points before to proceed with my order

vPro is included because of the CPU selection, you can disable it through the Option ROM (if you ever replace the motherboard, you can completely turn it off during initial setup by selecting mode 3).

As for DDPE, worst case, you can format the SSD and reinstall Windows.

On my E7440 DDPE (Dell Data Protection & Encryption) is present but not activated. Control Panel shows 3 components which can be uninstalled.

Once DDPE is activated then it will be difficult to remove because it is the key to getting at whatever is on the drive.

I also have various Dell software packages that I don't use but it costs Dell nothing to include them and it would cost Dell extra money to have a range of different storage drive images depending on which of the various software packages the customer wanted. So we all get everything and then ignore or uninstall whatever we don't need.

thanks for help ... ok, I will order one and waste my time removing something I don't want

(Dell have no costs to put that software inside pc as default... but my company will pay my time while I'm removing that, I don't think this is a correct approach to the customers by Dell... if are few minutes no problem, if will be more complicate then...)

Just ignore it unless you are desparate for storage space.

For those who have the misfortune of owning the E7240 TFT screen, I've included 2 color profiles which make the screen quite a bit better.

Dell-E7240 TFT.icm is a brighter, better colors and with higher contrast.
Dell E7240.icm is the result of Spyder Elite analysis. Some may find the whites slightly browner, but it's the most accurate for photos and movies.

Anyone have a link to the 1080p non touch to replace the 13x7 matte screen? I don't care for touch but the view angles on the matte 13x7 screen are the suck. Thanks. I've seen some panels and some indicate 30 pin while others mentioned 40 pins. What's the difference?

Which laptop do you have? I don't have the part # for the E7240, but for the E7440, it's DP/N 0MJ2P.

As for the connector, you need to make sure it's eDP (embedded DisplayPort). If the panel as the correct Dell P/N on it, you will be fine.

in my stupidity to lighten my e7240. I bought the 3 cell battery, it dropped my touchscreen 1080p e7240 a whopping 1.1 ounce. Really stupid and a case of more money than brains. Went from 3.58 lbs to 3.47 lbs. Thing feels sturdy but is kind of overweight for a 12.5" ultrabook. Also borrowed a heat sensor and the hottest parts were the wigig and my 2x 8gb ddr3L chips. Does anyone else's wigig 1601 run warm
