Haven't tested E7440 much, but seems like throttling is a Dell thing. I've got stupid CPU throttling on my M6800 when GPU is over 75c.

I finally got around to installing the backlit keyboard on the E7440, which was a little more tricky than usual due to the flaps holding the keyboard in place. I have to say the new keyboard and trackpoint seem better than the ones it replaced.

If you are experiencing keyboard replacing I need to ask you: is it possible to switch non-backlit keyboard to backlit one with just swapping them? Or there is a need for something more to do?

I am also interested in modems. As I understand every option of e7440 has sim card slot under the battery, but modem must be included on mPCI slot, when it isn't I just have to buy one (I'm intersted in 4G one and have availbility to buy) put it to the PCI and there will be everything done like antennas and cable with SIM or sth similiar?

Yes. It is possible to swap-in a backlit keyboard in place of your non-backlit one. I had this done last month.

I've read something that suggested that some of the E7440 mainboards did not have the socket for the backlight cable. It would be best to look inside before purchasing.

Check that the antennae for the WWAN card are present next to the mSATA / WWAN card slot. Your E7440 may have come with an mSATA SSD in that slot in which case you need the adapter (Dell call it an "interposer") to fit the mSATA SSD into the 2.5" bay.

If you have not already done so, read the E7440 Owners Manual which explains how to remove / replace the hardware.

Here's a nice internal photo of the E7440 with a WWAN card 2-E7440-internals.jpg (snaffled from my E7440 review).

Thanks a lot, so next month I'll go with new keyboard (if I'll buy this model).
I am buying it via Internet because it is the only way to buy notebooks from Outlet in here so I'll call them and ask for questions you proposed.
I read your review (and a lot more) about this notebook before asking, btw. great work :)

Hi all, just a very strange problem for me.. did clean install of win 7, everything went smooth, all the drivers from intel/dell so no compatibility issues... BUT from unknown reason when i turn my e7440 on and loading in to windows 7 and its going to check network connecton it freeze... can go to internet, can check my files but it takes too long ( 30-40 seconds ) while it recognize the connection and it deosnt matter if ethernet or wifi. Just on the ethernet icon is still the circle.. but after that it works fine, no problems/issues at all.. just the starting sequence.. tried to reinstall it few times with diferent order of instalation but still the same issue .. any ideas?

When I first got my E7440 it was much slower to connect to a network than it is now, but I don't know what, if anything, has changed.

Do you have the Intel PROSet software installed?
