It was a certified refurbed unit. The only heavy lifting I do is with my main desktop, which is more suited towards CPU intensive tasks, so the ULV i3 is plenty for me. It's almost as fast as the AMD quad cores in my HTPCs from a few years ago. In a week, I'm going to call Dell and pretend I don't like it, to see if I can get a better deal.

They were supposed to deliver it today, but FedEx always comes super early for me and I'm not an early riser. It must not be my regular person because she always signs for me and sticks it inside the door.

Anyone got a recommendation for a bag with a few pockets? Right now I've got a Tom Bihn sleeve, but that doesn't carry enough.

Just placed my order this afternoon for a new E7440 with I7, 8GB, 256SSD, and 1920x1080 FHD. Scheduled for delivery on Monday. Pretty excited. First Dell I've purchased in quite some time lol.

So the E7440 arrived yesterday. Here it is next to the X220:

    A few thoughts would be:
    • It feels very solid and well put together. Right now it's slightly lighter than my X220, which has the nine-cell in it right now.
    • Windows 8.1 is still Windows 8, which = lame. Maybe if you had the touch screen, but I don't. I can't wait to get Windows 7 on there. Speaking of which, where's the COA? It's not on the underside. Where can I find the key to downgrade?
    • The fan came on for about 10 seconds. I hope this is not a long term issue.
    • The screen is very nice and I like the extra resolution. It seemed about the same brightness as my X220, though it is rated at a higher brightness. The colors are a bit off, but hopefully it just needs a bit of tweaking.
    • I like the stick on it. It's most like the soft rim, which is my preferred pointer. I don't like the buttons as much. They have a smooth action, but you can't tell which button your on because there's nothing differentiating the buttons. I'm hoping with practice, I'll get better, but we'll see.

I guess that's it for now. I'll have to get Windows 7 on there to do more testing and see if it's a keeper.

I got the key using Belarc Advisor, From what I've gleaned from the internet, though I've got the key, I'll probably have to call to get it activated.

    So you've installed your hdd?

I've had E7440 Core i3 version for tests, and it did not have the mSATA/WWAN port.

Install Classic Shell on your Windows 8.1 install and you'll be fine. After running both 7 and 8/8.1 on my 7440, it runs better with 8.
