not sure where people are noticing the keyboard flex? I have very little to none on my e7240.. If I ever find a way to properly throttle the fan at lower constant rate, this would be one of my fav laptops. Would Dell void my warranty if I replaced the thermal paste on mine and put some artic silver.

Thanks everyone. Well, I've read about keyboard flex on the 7440, not on the 7240. So the fan is always running, also with light cpu usage? What do you think about the xps 13 for ms office, web browsing and other light tasks? Now I'm used to a 15" screen but it's really too big/heavy to carry around (the e6530 + ac adapter is almost 3 kg...) but I'm a little bit worried about smaller screen... Is it easy to work on ms word for 2/3 hours on a 13 or 14 inches display? Or maybe the xps 15 is a better compromise between screen size and weight but for sure is overkill for my needs...

    Thanks again

I'm working on a FHD 1080p on a 12" screen. I'd say 14" is fine. You can of course change the font size in windows for all programs and the font size in IE, Firefox, etc.

No, the fan only runs with multiple browser sessions running in my case. I played around with xps 13 in a local store and didn't like the keyboard (too shallow travel) and the touchpad (personal preference, I really need my left and right clicks!). XPS 15 looks like a find machine, but I'd personally be wary of something that thin with a discrete gpu and a quadcore cpu. I used to have an older generation xps 15 and it gave me burns whenever I put in on my lap. I think if you don't game a lot (or don't do any other specific tasks that need the gpu), then xps 15 is overkill and you will end up paying for things that you will hardly use, and if you do game, then you need to look at laptops with beefier thermal solutions, which won't be that light or thin anymore. I work for 6-8 hours on my laptop and the 14" display has never bothered me. I only adjust the fonts at 125% and all is good for me.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, I can use a mSATA as a boot drive on the e7440, then put a 7mm platter drive in the main bay?

Thanks mazyarjr. That's exactly what I wanted to hear cause I just bought one and I already have the 7mm WD 1TB. Specs are:

    CPU: 1.7GHz i3-4010u
    Mem: 8GB DDR3
    Storage: 256GB mSATA(Adding WD 1TB)
    LCD: 1080p Matte IPS
    OS: Windows 8.1 Pro(Probably Downgrade to W7P)

$680 out the door with Dell Outlet coupon and three year warranty isn't too shabby.

Holy crap. What "condition category" was it under in the outlet?

While I'd personally like a i5 and dedicated graphics..that price with those specs..the SSD especially.... :)
