Thanks, orev. Agreed to all your points. Fingers-crossed for now. Everything's running fine. Plus, unlike most folks, I'm near religious with my backups.

NOTE: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK -- IT WORKED FOR ME BUT MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE!

If anyone wants the latest Nvidia drivers on their shiny Core i series Dell E6410 or E6510 try this:

    1. Download the latest stable Nvidia driver here:
(note 32-bit owners -- just follow along the general idea below)
    Win Vista/7 - 64bit - 197.16
OR download the 256 series (BETA!!)
    Win Vista/7 - 64bit - 257.15

    2. Extract the files. They usually end up in C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver
    a. If you downloaded the 197.16 driver go to 197.16\WinVista_Win7_64\International
    b. If you downloaded the 257.15 driver go to 257.15\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    197.16 INSTRUCTIONS
    3. Edit the NVLT.inf file in Notepad
    a. Do a Find for 0A6C (this is the hardware type for NVS 3100)
    i. You will see something like this:
This is under the section [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A6C.02% = Section053, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A6C&SUBSYS_XXXXXXXX

    ii. Change it to

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A6C.02% = Section053, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A6C&SUBSYS_040B1028

    b. Do another find

This is under the section [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A6C.02% = Section053, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A6C&SUBSYS_XXXXXXXX

    ii. Change it to

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A6C.02% = Section053, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A6C&SUBSYS_040B1028

    c. Save the file and run setup.exe

Thanks for the info. I've tried using some of the drivers at LaptopVideo2Go, but they ended up giving me more problems. I don't have the time to try each version out and see the difference, so I ended up just sticking with whatever Dell comes out with.

    Questions about Intel HD graphics

Hi forum, I need some advice about graphics card for E6510.

    1. Will integrated HD graphics on Core i5-540M be able to handle Full Aero Glass? Or do I need NVS 3100M for that.

    2. Is it possible to buy NVS-3100M and plug it myself or will I need to send the machine to Dell for that?

    Thanks!

What are E6510 owners finding for battery life (6 and 9 cell)?
Is the unit with a 9-cell too clunky and cumbersome, or workable?
How is everyone loving the FHD display?

I found a 31% off coupon code (expires tomorrow 6/9), combined that with the Inspiron Mini for $50 deal, and ended up ordering:

    Latitude E6510
    Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 64-bit, no media
Intel® Core i7-620M (2.66GHz, 4M cache) with Turbo Boost Technology
    4.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
    512MB NVIDIA® NVS 3100M
    500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
15.6" UltraSharp™ FHD(1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED with Premium Panel Guarantee
    Dell Wireless® 375 Bluetooth Module
8X DVD+/-RW w/Roxio and Cyberlink Power DVD蒂, no media
Light Sensitive Webcam and Noise Cancelling Digital Array Mic
    Dell Wireless™ 1520 802.11a/b/g/n Half Mini Card
    9-cell (90Wh) Lithium Ion Battery
3 Year Limited Warranty and 3 Year Mail-in Service

    Plus Inspiron Mini 10

Total: $1,594.39 (including shipping and taxes)

    Shipping out on 6/16

Seemed like a good deal to grab while the grabbing is good.

But I'm not convinced I'm going to keep it all. I may still end up buying a Macbook Pro and sell the Latitude and Inspiron Mini in the sealed boxes. Depends on how much love or hate appears on this thread over the next week or so.

    Love?

    Hate?

    1) Yes, it will handle that with not problems. It will even handle full HD (1080p) video playback.

    2) No. Even sending the machine to Dell is probably not possible, you have to choose the right graphics card before you order.

    Thanks for answers about graphics.
    Couple more questions about NVS-3100M.

    1. What is the thermal (heat) out of NVS-3100M, does the machine get hot because of it?

    2. Does the fan kick in frequently because of NVS?

    3. Is the graphics card switchable meaning can I choose Integrated or NVS-3100M from BIOS on E6510?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. very cool. Light gaming like WoW gives video temperature around 65C at max. This laptop isn't designed for heavy gamers anyways.

    2. I don't know if it's because of the graphics card. But my fan runs quite frequently. It doesn't bother me much though; my older inspiron e1505 has a fan running constantly and more loudly.

    3. I don't think so.

Hi! Thanks for posting the picture.

Is your ON flash working in that location or just stored there? I thought it had to replace the WLAN card?

    Thanks!
