It was in January. I returned the first one within a couple of weeks, got my money back and then bought a new one (this might not be possible in your country if the unit is not defective).

I should also mention that I'm working in a relatively cold room (about 20 deg. C). The fan will certainly run more in higher ambient temperatures. (And when not in dock use Fn+z, not ScrollLock+z, to try to turn the fan off).

I got an E6500 at work, running Windows XP x64. I can't seem to get Hibernate to enable. There is no Hibernate tab in the Power Options window, and when I use Control Point to enable Hibernate, the checkbox does not stay checked. When I close DCP and go back in, it is unchecked again. I did not do the initial XP install, but I've gone to Dell's site to download various drivers, DCP and the latest BIOS (A12). I can't think of where else to look.

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

Just a quick question. On the dutch dell site there is an option between 2 LED screens for the latitude E6500.

15.4in Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) LED

    and

15.4in Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) with LED backlit

According to Dell the diffrence isn't just the resolution, and the second more expensive option has a brighter screen aswell. This is important for me because it will be used outside in direct sunlight alot. The higher resolution is not important for me, in fact I prefer the lower res. So is Dell right or are they trying to make me get the more expensive option even if I don't need it ?

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting Dell to replace my XPS M1530 with this laptop, should i have any further problems after they change my motherboard later this week. Is the E6500 still having issues, or have they sorted them all out? My father has an E6500 for work and it seems like a nice machine. He's had it for a while now, and apart from how the "IT Tech" at his office set it up, he's had no issues.

just as a heads up, there is far more conversation about the e6500 over at the e6400 owner's lounge, since they are roughly exactly the same machine. i contribute regularly there, and only own an e6500, but the problems/answers are the same across the models.

I'm going to buy a E6500 but had a few questions:

    1. On Dell's site there is one that starts at $1100 and one at $750. What are the differences?
    2. Is it worth $80 to upgrade to the WGXA+ screen?
    3. I'm planning on buying the keyboard with lights. Does it work well?
    4. They want like $150 for 4GB of ram. Couldn't I buy 4GB online and install it myself for a lot less money?

**1. Can't answer this -- just check the specifications.
**2. In my opinion, yes, since there's more screen "real estate" -- but this depends on your eyesight.
**3. Yes, though I've turned off the ambient light sensor -- it's sort of wonky.
**4. Yes -- I bought mine with 2GB and bought another stick from Crucial.

Just got my new Latitude E6500 and so far I'm very pleased with it. But I have one question about the battery. Where could I set the % when the laptop should start charging and when stop charging? I'd like to set it like so: start charging when battery has 30% remaining and stop when it is 70% full. It should be the best option for Li-Ion batteries when plugged in. I know I can manually stop charging but it gets annoying in long term. There is possibility to do it in Lenovo(in Power Control or smthg like that). Or can I set those things somewhere in Vista? I'm used it only for a day so maybe I just haven't discovered it.

You can't do this automatically. You can press Fn+F2 to turn on/off recharging. You are on a Lithium battery, these kind of things are not needed. The battery works with recharge cycles. Every ~80% recharge count as 1 cycle. It is also expected that the battery life will reduces within the first month of usage, but it will stabilize and stay at that level until it's end of life. Laptop battery usually last a year and half if you use it everyday. After that point your battery life should be lower then before to a point that it MAY annoy you (too short battery life). What I mean is some will be happy with 3 hours (let's say, just a random number) of battery out of their 9-cell battery, I am not these one, and such low battery life will make me buy a new one.

Anyway, if you are worried the battery has a 1 year warranty, which you can extend before the return date of your system. Call Dell for all the info and details.

I don't think being ...caring.. will give you any drastic impact on battery life.

Quick question...I just received my E6500 and noticed that the EC slot (the one next to the SD card slot) is wide open and does not have a door nor does it have a filler piece. Is that normal? It just leaves a gaping hole. For you E6500 owners, what does your E6500 have to cover the EC slot?
