Is there anyone that has an E6500 with fingerprint reader (either standard or FIPS certified)?

I would be very thankful if someone could check what the fingerprint device for respective type of fingerprint reader (standard/FIPS) is called in the Device Manager. It should be listed under either "Biometric" or "Credential Vault Device".

My E6500 has also frozen twice within the past week (nvidia NVS 160M card, display driver crash), and I agree with the stance of it happening on any operating system - I purchased mine with XP installed. There seems to be quite a bit of flakiness to the E-series units, and I haven't been terribly pleased thus far. I found that the VGA port was faulty (took two MBoard replacements to fix), my USB multimedia keyboard hotkeys won't work for more than 1-2 reboots (keyboard works fine when connected to another computer), and internal pc speakers must be disabled for externally-connected ones to sound decent.

As far as the fingerprint reader, I have the FIPS-certified unit (listed under "Credential Vault Device"). It is listed as a Broadcom USH CV w/Fingerprint Touch Sensor.

Mine freezes after about 10 minutes of use... I'll turn it on, leave it sit, then it freezes. Very unhappy with the laptop with all the other issues and I plan to return it tomorrow. Anyone know if the D830 or D630 have so many problems?

My E6500 arrived November 6. All the goodies, save for the built-in GPRS modem. It does however have a sim card slot under the battery, mounted on a circuit board, which I found odd. However, I have read elsewhere that the WWAN card is separate, and that without the WWAN card installed, nothing will work in this dept. As soon as I get a small enough paper clip to pop the sim card out of my iphone, I'll insert the sim card and see if anything happens.

    Thoughts on the lappie:
    1. This was a replacement of a Thinkpad T41p that had a 14.1 inch screen. Since I sometimes found the screen tight, I went with the 15.4. However, the Dell screens are widescreen, and my office partner went for the 6400. The 6500 is, considering what I am coming from, HEAVY. Would get the 6400 if I were to do it again. That said, when I dont have the lappie slung on my shoulder, I am digging the real estate....
    2. Wrist rest area - Way too wide. Should be an inch or an inch and a half shorter (which could be done moving keyboard forward. I know, in doing so this crowds out the touchpad. But , as it is I have to take off my watch (steel bracelet), as it chews up the surface - where my wrist applies pressure to the rest area is right on the buckle of the steel bracelet.
    3. Fingerprint scanner rocks.
    4. Am running XP, fyi.
    5. LED backlit screen and keyboard are awesome.
    6. Touchpad is mediocre. Swiping finger across trackpad would not cause cursor to move, so I had to set the sensitivity very high (far left). Much easier to move the cursor, but now at times I inadvertently click on something.
    7. Blue Screen of Death - Booting up has sometimes produced Blue Screen of Death. It has only happened while lappie is in docking station, to which Maxtor External USB drive is plugged in. When it does happen, unplugging the USB drive is the only way to boot up without getting blue screen. Funny thing is, I only get the blue screen of death every once in a while.
    8. Battery life is awesome (9 cell), but my overall rig is HEAVY (compared to T41p).
    9. Docking station came with big AC brick, so I asked if there was a travel brick for the E6500. In response to my question, I was offered an AC/air/auto brick. However, its only 45 watts, so the lappie tells me I need to plug in a 90 watt brick or performance will be reduced. So basically, the adapter is VERY LAME, albeit not completely useless (but almost). Looking for a suitable replacement; suggestions most welcome....
    10. I have no audio issues, nor any graphics issues. I do have the Nvidia adapter. Integrated web cam works well.
I'll post any other tips or quirks as I uncover them. Remorse aside from not having gone with the 6400, I am happy with my hefty bride.... ;-)

I find the front corners are very square and sharp compared to my old D800, I often find them digging into my wrists :(
