    Here's a stupid question...
On the palmrest of my e6500, just to the right of the touchpad, there is a logo imprinted that looks like a rectangle with some sort of signal coming out of it. Does anyone know what this means?

That would be the location of the wireless smart card reader (yes, I've seen the actual reader a number of times, since my computer was serviced several times). Some corporations use these for increased, multi-factor security (password, biometric, card - i.e. what you know, what you are, and what you have), but most users won't use this feature.

BTW, if any one of the little rubber spacers on the left and right edges of the palm rest (next to the speakers) ever fall off due to a legitimate defect, Dell will actually replace the whole palm rest assembly (including touch pad). (it's a good idea to get it replaced if in that situation; otherwise the screen is no longer protected from the keyboard when the notebook is closed) Note that if you have this done, you will lose your original Core 2 Duo and Windows Vista stickers (unless you peel them off with a razor blade or its equivalent). (not that I really cared about these stickers, anyway....)

PS: the ink on the identifying sticker of my E6500 (which has the service tag and express service code) has already rubbed off completely (possibly due to thermal heat and exposure to oily substances). Unfortunately, Dell won't replace these, due to security reasons (according to them). I've suggested to them to use a more indelible ink for their stickers in the future....

Thanks for the answer. Does this have any application outside of security? Or should I just forget about it?

Also thanks for the info about the rubber spacers.

I couldn't tell from the Dell site - are the E6500 screens matte? Any comments on glare or brightness? Thanks.

Just got my E6500, looks good and with Dells install of Vista it gots no Cpu-noise.
But when i install retail Vista(non Dell DVD) it have a lot of noise from CPU when cpu is idle or with low load.
If i connect a bluetooth mouse Cpu-noise is gone.

I put back Dell-image, and Cpu-noise is gone.

Exactly the same with my Studio XPS 13.

So, what do Dell do to their install\image\DVD to avoid Cpu-noise?

just got my E6500... out of the box, besides 1 stuck pixel (not dead) and the dcp software (comes as default), all is fine... havn't tested the sound/music yet so i cant tell you if im affected the latency issue...

im creating an image now using PING... PING flashed an alert about several users experiencing problems when creating images of a Dell machine... something about the Dell Utilities Partition causing problems when restoring the image... anybody here who have used PING experience this 'problem' before?

PING gave suggestions on how to continue, I chose option 3... continue with image creation and PING will modify the boot.ini, during restoration the 1st partition containing Dell Utilities Partition will be dropped and extended into the boot partition, or something like that... Do I need the Dell Utilities Partition? Is it ok if I delete it?

Wow that is awesome DPC latency, all green bars. What are your system specs if I may ask?
