    Hi,

If I connect two 1600x1200 external monitors via port replicator, dwm.exe process starts to having huge amount of CPU Usage. When I took out one of the monitors, it became normal. Are two 1600x1200 external monitors too much for the Intel GMA graphics or is there any way I can fix this? I'm using Windows 7 RC.

    Thank you,
    Joon

the md5 looks right. what does dpc show with IDT installed? also, it shouldn't ever go into the red. that causes audio/streaming dropout. have you installed the latest intel matrix manager? older versions caused a lot of these issues.

Some rare jumps to red is fine... that is because your system does something on the back here and there. It could be your SATA controler, wireless, CPU, HDD, etc...

as GB says, rare is OK, but if it is going red, say, every 10 seconds, this is an issue. and quite honestly, it shouldnt EVER go into the red, but if you cant make it stop and it is rare, it isnt the end of the world.

It seems nobody has answer for my question, but I found more information about my problem.

    * It was actually not dwm, but dxgmms1.sys in system process which was causing the CPU usage problem. (I think it is direct X driver)

    * It only happens when I connect two 1600x1200 LCD monitors to my laptop.

    * When I turn off the other monitor, the CPU Usage immediately drops.

It is really annoying. Hope somebody can help me ..

How are you connecting 2 monitors to your laptop? Through the edock or some other method? I have 2 22" monitors hooked up through the dock and have never had a problem such as yours.

Finally my e6400 is on a truck for delivery to my office this morning. Picked up a OCZ vertex 120 to replace the stock drive. Also adding 4 more gig's of ram to get me up to 8 gig... Good by e4200 Hello e6400.

At work I've hooked up two 17" 1280x1024 monitors through DisplayPort and VGA port, and I am not having any problems. At home I hookup two 20" 1600x1200 monitors through the port replicator, one with DVI and one with VGA.

I have installed New Windows 7 Direct3D 11 (DirectX 11) Release last night, and I think it helped the situation a little bit, but still my laptop becomes sluggish after about 30min of use.

have you checked to see if your cpu is throttling for some reason? is it possible it is overheating when outputting to all three monitors?

    To vidrogal:

If you don't know how to do this, search for HWmonitor on Google and run it on your system. It will report the temperatures. To see CPU usage you can use the Process Manager included with Windows (accessible with CTRL+ALT+DEL).
