    Display Port specs:
    • 17.28 Gbit/s of video bandwidth, enough for supporting 4 simultaneous 1080p60 displays or 2560 × 1600 × 30 bit @120 Hz
    • Dual link DVI - 7.92 Gbit/s or 330 MHz pixel clock, HDMI 1.3 - 8.16 Gbit/s or 340 MHz, analog VGA - 400 Mhz
Source: DisplayPort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So from my understanding, is that Display port should have no problem supporting that resolution.
BUT your display doesn't support Display Port.

The Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M max resolution is: 1920 x 1200 in digital. You can go up to 2048 x 1536, with VGA at the loss of image quality.

Now before you curse the Nvidia solution, this is actually very good for a laptop GPU, most laptop supports only 1600 x 1200 digital max. (at the release of this laptop.. now technology has changed and you have better).

The Latitude E6410/E6510, supports up to 2560x1600 via Display port, or 1920x1080 via HDMI.

    See full specs here:
    NVS 3100M: Tech Specs
NVS 160M: Quadro NVS Mobile - Tech Specs

Both GPU's only support 2 displays max. You need SLI to support more.

considering to buy E6400/E6410 laptop with 256GB SSD Configuration? How come the outlet got these machines for around 1000 bucks? I need advice on dell SSD's? Are they worth for the price ? Compare to 500GB 7200RPM , how fast are they?

Btw, if any one got unused outlet latitude coupon, please pm me?

Right, so DisplayPort could handle it, with the addition of the DualLink DVI adapter, but you're saying that video card will not handle 2560x1600 resolution? Good to know, thanks.

Well you can try with VGA, if your monitor has that. Obviously it's not ideal, but at least it's something.

That's the problem with laptop GPU's, they are always behind in features and performance (except for DirectX and OpenGL support, and some rare occasion some specific features like stereoscopic 3D (but obviously performance is cut in half from wheat you have when in use) ).

I think Dell usually uses Samsung SSDs. These aren't the fastest but are still in a different league to the HDDs. Write rates are better than HDDs, read rates typically double while the near-instant access times are what gives the real performance boost in everyday usage.

I have noticed on an e6400 a card slot that is visible when the battery is removed, this slot looks like it holds something very similar to a SIM card that you would see in a T-Mobile mobile phone or similar.

Can anyone confirm what that slot is for ? i have searched the dell documents and there is no mention of this slot.

This is not completely correct. First, the E6400 with NVS 160M graphics DEFINATLY DOES support 2560x1600 via DisplayPort. I am typing this message on such a configuration on a 3008wfp panel. The problem is that the DVI port does not support this resolution, nor does the displayport to dual link dvi adaptor. The 3007wfp is not compatible with the E6400 or the E6410 for that matter. Neither has a dual-link DVI port.

The 3008wfp was introduced last year specificly to enable 2560x1600 via displayport on a laptop. The E-series Lattitudes are among the first in the industry to accomplish this. I would suggest you ebay the 3007wfp to a desktop user and pickup a 3008wfp and be a VERY happy camper. I LOVE mine. Would have one at the office too were it not for the expense.

    @jcthorne, COOL! Double COOL!
I was just following the specs mentioned on Nvidia web site. I guess they made an error in the specs then.

The 3008wfp was one of the reasons our company went with the E6400 when we did as our standard issue laptop, replacing the D620. When we first bought them and a 3008 panel, spent long hours on the phone with Dell premium tech support and they had Nvidia on the line. Tech support and NVidia said the combo would not work. Dell engineering and the spec sheet said otherwise. Dell did not want to buy back 50 laptops with approx 100 on order. Took dell a week or so and a video driver update to support it but it does. All Nvidia drivers since then, even one I dl'd from Nvidia rather than Dell supports it too. Not to many folks use it I guess but was a major selling point for us. We no longer buy desktop machines due to energy efficiency reasons, this includes CAD stations and 3D modeling systems. I think we are buying the E6410s now but not much difference.
