Yes, but... more of a design issue... my solution was easier on me, the notebook, Dell, and the environment. And my solution seems to be better than Dell's which is not worth maintaining, imo, even under warranty.

I agree GKDesigns, that's cheaper (than staying home from work), greener and faster. Sometimes it's just not worth it being picky with the warranty (even though Goodbytes is correct in saying that it is your right).

I am getting ready to purchase a new laptop for college and I think I have it narrowed down to a E6410, E6510, or a Vostro 3400/3500. What kind of battery life does the E6410 have? I have also read complaints about the screen. Is the screen that bad? What is the case made of?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In my opinion, you never want to go with the base model screen. As with any computer retailer, there are several different screens made by different manufacturers.

Not saying that there are issues, but when you get a full HD screen over a regular HD you usually have less issues in the long run. It's essentially the same thing as regular monitors vs. Ultrasharp in the previous Dell lines.

what are these "complaints" about the screen?

yeah, im with LPTP -- there certainly isn't much to complain about in the 6x00 series with respect to the monitor

I love the screen of my E6400. Great sharpness and brightness, great view angles horizontally (not so much vertically, but that seems to happen to all laptops), and good colors.

    Agreed.
I don't get why people expect 12 people watching their laptop screen around them...

I have a Dell Latitude E6400, with the Nvidia Quadro NVS160M graphics card and a Dell 3007wfp 30 inch monitor. I want to be able to drive the 30 inch monitor with this laptop at full 2560x1600 resolution.

From what I have read, this monitor has a dual-link DVI interface. On my current tower PC workstation, I have a graphics card that outputs to a 24 pin cable into the 30 inch monitor to achieve this.

Since the laptop dock I have doesn't output dual-link DVI, I need an alternative. If I buy the Dell DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI Adapter:

DELL DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI Adapter for OptiPlex / Latitude / Alienware Laptops / Precision/ Precision Mobile Workstations : Desktop Accessories | Dell

will this allow the laptop to put out the full 2560x1600 by 32 bit resolution?

Can I connect another monitor at the same time (say out of the VGA output, which can do 1600x1200 into a 20 inch monitor)?

I've asked Dell, but they don't seem to have experience with their own products.

    Thanks
