Latitude E6400 Owner's Lounge, Part 2

Anyone planning on upgrading their E6400 this year? I fitted mine with an SSD 2 years ago and it feels blisteringly quick, gone are the days of having to replace the laptop every 2/3 years. That said, as much as I like it, I feel like a change. Anyone else feel the same?

Latitude refresh due July/August with a new chassis design, apparently...

I will definitely upgrade to something which has a half-decent cooling system, not this thermal pad joke. If AW starts selling in my country I might get one, otherwise goodbye Dell, I will miss your excellent warranty.

 

Had no issues with cooling on mine. Runs like a dream!

I agree. I can even the GPU at near double speed (except memory due to lack of heatsink on them, but that is normal for any laptop, including Alienware. No cooling problem.
People that used my laptop, are surprised how cool it is. "A laptop that you can actually put on your lap" one said.

But if I had to buy a new laptop now, I won't be buying a Dell. Dell is great, but seeing that in the last years, especially with the Latitude E6420 and all the other laptop refresh, you can clearly see that Dell has give up. Abysmal screens are used, poor laptop design, ugly, huge power brick, much lower quality, I would feel like I bought a 200$ at over 1000$. ASUS right now, seams to be the company that actually tries and innovates. I THINK, that they all come with a 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental. The only sucky part, is that you can only buy from a retail store, not directly from them, and with pre-build configurations options, with no ways to configure something yourself. The Razor first laptop looks crazy nice system, but well, it's really big for me. For me 14inch is the max laptop size. If they choose to go in to the laptop business, and release other sizes, I think I would buy one in heart beat.

I use dell e6400 and now change original adapter with adapter 90W but when i power on it say "the ac power adapter type cannot be determined"...
When login to win7 it said: plugin not changing.
So can you tell me what' happen?

The power adapters of Dell are fancy. More than power is transmitted in the cable, it's designed wattage. This allows the laptop to function will lower power adapters, such as a 65W one (system will slow down, and disable features, such as charging, so that it can operate under low wattage).

Because your Power adapter doesn't provide this information, the laptop doesn't take any chances, and assume a low wattage power adapter is used.

Thanks.But my new adapter same with old adapter(90w).New adapter is original slim.i think it will better old adapter.but battery change well with old adapter.
So sad.

 

I think that your adapter is faulty then. If it genuine it should work.. old or new.
On my side, I can even plug the old bulky 90W Dell power adapter no problem on my E6400.

 

I do. And I use it for work, which involves rending intensive (for the Quadro inside) 3D graphics. Never throttles down. No overheating issues.
