Hi MemphisCharlie, I have EXACTLY the same problem -- my TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-U633A fails on burning DVD+R DL disks. However, the disks I have are 8x (not 2.4x) Verbatim and Imation. Can you confirm if your new DVD burner can work with 8x DVD+R DL disks as well. I'm not even sure if it makes any difference, but I want to confirm before I call Dell Support.

I've got the TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-U633A and I just made my last two DVD's coasters using the provided Roxio program. I could not find updated drivers and have the latest version of the Matrix Storage Manager Console installed.

I'm not sure if the DVD's were +R or -R, but what experiences have most people had with Media that works?

More of a What Burning application, Media are you guys with the TSScorp using?

Hi, I've just registered to say thanks to the guy who has solved the problem by installing the intel matrix storage.

I can say that it seems to work. My PLDS DU-8A2S also stopped reading any kind of support but I reinstalled my OS and changed SATA option to IRRT, then I installed both intel app and driver and my drive now works again.

    PS
Sorry if my English is quite crappy, I'm Italian.

I had problems with the TS-U633 while installing a slipstreamed version of Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack 3 with the Intel Matrix Driver on a TDK CD/RW. Everything reads fine until it starts to install files. At that point, XP says that it cannot fine certain files it needs. I cancelled the installation and tried another drive from another E6400 that I own.

I installed the DU-8A2S from the other laptop and proceeded to install XP. While installing, it did not present any errors. I believe the TS-U633 has a firmware issue. Hopefully they release one soon.

Is there a better burning program to use than the roxio that came pre-installed? I never get a good burn with the TSSTCORP and roxio combination.

they replaced my entire precision m4400 free of charge because it was giving lots of problems.

i suppose they'll replace your dvd burner for free under warranty if you're having lots of issues with it.

note, it isnt a hell of a lot more quiet. just a bit. also the sound is different. sounds a bit like an electric car lol.

My past experience is that the Matshushita burners are fussy about their media.

You can get a replacement if there is a problem with your existing burner. You would need to persuade Dell that it is unusually nosy or unreliable.

I'm thinking about getting an E6400. Is there still problems with the optical drive? Also, would it be possible to replace it with a slot-loading 9.5mm drive, like the Panasonic UJ-867?
