Been away for a few days, but wanted to get back in here and clarify a few points.

First is that the e4200 and e4300 systems WILL be running DDR3. The unit I saw was correct. The larger systems will still be running the DDR2 until the next refresh.

You should be able to order the 42/4300 systems by mid Sept, but don't expect them until the end of the month at best.

Battery life on the 4300 with the 6 cell is confirmed at 5.5 hours online with normal settings, wireless radio turned on and screen brightness on low.

Bluetooth can be configured on the machines, but for some reason it is not on the web. i called a rep and they can manually go in and make the quote with it in there.

Latitude ON is not shipping at launch on the 64/6500 machines. This will be available towards the end of the year. 42/4300s will have it at launch.

Latitude On comes in 2 versions. The free reader and the upgrade. The free reader shows your cached emails, appointments and contacts. The upgrade has the ability to send and receive email using either wifi or cellular radios. It also has the integrated firefox browser. This is a user installable upgrade. It goes in just like installing a cellular radio after the fact. The physical upgrade is what carries the processor and memory for the apps. because it does not use the intel proc or system memory, the battery life on the system goes up 4x or more vs using windows and the whole system.

Thats all i have for now. I'll try and keep updating as I see questions pop up or I get more info.

re DDR2/DDR3 -- by the next refresh are we talking e6510, e.g.? Does this mean it will not be available as an option in say, mid september with the rest of the full release?

edit -- if DDR3 will not be available for like a year or more, im purchasing as soon as you tell me.

also, re bluetooth -- the only option currently available (from the reps) is the one without the ultra-wide band. do you have any idea on when the 410 (with UWB) will be available?

also, have you seen/heard anything on the battery drain difference between the 1440x900 LED and the 1920x1200 screens? (since the WUXGA isnt even available as an option yet, but I normally would select it).

I have a few questions about the M4400
    1. when will it be avible in the epp section?
    2. when will they offer the fx 1700 in it? (I know september but early, later...?)
    3. How much more will it be for the fx 1700 vs the 770?
    4. When might be a good time to buy? I'm gonna be able to order anytime from the 28th on but I want to be able to get it through epp and with a fx 1770...

replied to your PM on the memory. I would look for ddr3 on the mid-sized systems in the next refresh which will prob be in about 12 months.

I haven't heard on when UWB will be available.

i havent seen any specifics on battery drain based on res, but rather the lighting. The general think I see, and its a marketing slide, so who knows, is 10% more batter life using LED vs standard. I dont know enough about them to know if resolution plays a big role in battery drain vesrus the lighting. i would think the lighting would be a bigger factor.

I want to know about my 9/9/08 delivery date also. I emailed Dell and got the standard "parts and labor leadtime" garbage they always say. I'm really hoping that they're already in production and it'll be a week or two before they ship...not three.

No idea when BT will make it on the web.

As long as you didnt order the laptop with vPro, there shouldnt be anything holding it up from the ship date you were told.

I'm hearing mixed things on when the 42/4300 will go on sale. One thing Im hearing is the middle of Sept and the other is the 24th of Sept. I'll let you all know if I get more info there.

When I ordered my E6400 I was told there was a 2 week lead time on the WXGA+ display. I was given a delivery date of "on or before 15 September".

Wow that is quite a shocker, i hoped to be able to buy a 4300 in early september :(

I am also suprised that they go with DDR3 instead of DDR2 ...
Well maybe it will be cheaper in a month or two, but i dont think so :/

Furthermore, why do they need so long for the E4300?
The delay on the E4200 model is understandable, because intel hasnt even announced the ULV CPUs, but the E4300 uses standard volt cpus.

Lenovo already has a standard volt cpu laptop with ddr3 "out".
