I thought it was completely hardware-based.

If you delete the partition, pressing the button will still make the splash screen come up, but it will then give you an error. Apparently, it's a combination of both hardware and software.

I never would use it and that's why I wish I could get an option that doesn't have that button. I find it really annoying to have a button that is virtually useless to me sitting above my keyboard.

there may be an option, but seriously you are complaining about an unused button? ... wow, man. i don't use my pause/break button much, and i don't think ive EVER had a use for the right-click menu button next to the prnt scrn button... but certainly someone does... so i just don't click them. its not worth the price increase of making two different boards for the occasional person who gets irritated by a button...

I think the Graphic-Score is quite bad. The XPS M1330 gets with the 128MB GeForce 8400 a score of around 4. And here with a 256MB Card only 3.4!? Even the old Intel-Graphics gets a 3.5 in the M1330. What might be a reason for such a bad score? Perhaps a driver problem?
Now I think the Sony Z-Series might be a better choice.

Never base a purchasing decision on WEI. It is far too erratic.

Someone further up said the GPU uses the G98M core, and this page shows the 9200M GS and 9300M GS are that same core. See notebookcheck's table to get an idea of the performance.

The Precision M4400 will offer a WUXGA display soon according to the Dell site.

has anyone seen any information on the battery drain of the 1920x1200 WUXGA vs. the 1440x900 LED? I normally like to get the WUXGA, but WXGA+ LED seems like it might be the better option since the WUXGA will not be getting LED.

note that the NVS 140M ranks higher than both of those gpus on that table, and i cannot believe that the 160M would not at least be an improvement over its predecessor.

Hey everyone.. I'll be making my Latitude E order by the end of this week.... :)

Would like to check two things:

    1) whether does anyone have information regarding how long a 6-cell battery alone could last? I watched/heard on the livecast that a 9-cell alone can give close to 10 hours of usage time, but nothing was mentioned for 6-cell, and

    2) what 7200rpm drive are they using? I seriously hope it's not the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 because new generation 5400rpm drives (such as the WD Scorpio Blue, which my friend has on his XPS) basically offer almost the same performance as the .2 drive! Hopefully they have WD Scorpio Black on the Latitudes (but I must say chances are really low, but I wouldn't mind Hitachi either)

A quick check on Dell's Accessories shop/list shows that the picture of the 7200rpm drive used for E6500 part is a 7200.2. :(
