    I don't know.
I unpackaged the PC (pretty clean install, no trial versions or anything) and then installed all updates from Windows Update and Dell Client Update - assuming the FPR would work.

Then, when everything was done, I tried to register my fingerprints, in vain.
So I don't know if it worked in the beginning, and I don't feel like reinstalling everything (and maybe it won't even work then...).
    I too think it's a software/driver issue...

I've installed DCP several times on fresh Windows 7 installs, and even then, it's still a pain to get to work. DDP|A doesn't seem to be any better in that regards, although it works fine with my DCP procedure.

Perhaps you could run diagnostics (press F12 on boot and select it from the Boot Menu)? I don't know if it tests the FPR though.

The Dell service guy was just here - he first exchanged the palmrest (including the FPR). Still the same problem (timeout due to inactivity).
Then he also exchanged the mainboard, finally some change: "No fingerprint reader found."
    Great.

I then asked him to install the old palmrest again because the touchpad buttons on the new one were slightly twisted.
Now even with the old palmrest I get: "No fingerprint reader found."

And then he had to leave to catch other appointments...

I hope they'll sort this out somehow.
He said if nothing helps, they'd just send me a new PC, but I doubt that that would help. :-/

It's probably a software issue, so I would reinstall Windows. After you install missing/required drivers, install DDP|A, following the directions on Dell's site.

Yeah, I guess I don't have any other option. :(

Hi. I was trying to follow the very clear instructions of your first post, but I get an missing dll error message when trying to upgrade the CV firmware, TPM being enabled or not.

I can't get to find these two files (maybe one is enough) online:
    bipdll.dll
    cvusrifc.dll

The error message is entitled "Unknown USH interface" and the dll should be in Windows/System32 directory.

Would some of you guys be able to send me those files? :D
    Big thanks in advance!

Also: can we have firefox password protected by fingerprints just with dell control access without purchasing upek software?

    .T.

ps: FYI Mr Chocolatefactory I now own a E6520 and I was able to get windows log on to work with fingerprints only installing DCPoint and Controlvault WBF but the recognition was not good enough for it to be more comfy than password typing..

EDIT: I managed to get the firmware upgrade working by installing CV WBF before it. New questions then(!):
-So if I get it right, dell PAccess has PreBootAccess which UPEK does not have, and UPEK has firefox passwords and file encryption that DellAccess does not have?
-I only found UPEK protector suite 2009 on upek's site, and it seems this version can't handle firefox beyond v3.5. How can I find Protector suite 2011 and is it compatible with Firefox 7?

    Thanks again!

Yes, both offer incomplete solutions, so what I did was install both. If I needed to change PBA, then I would disable UPEK and run DDP|A.

I don't know what has happened to UPEK's products since the merger with Authentec, but I think UPEK Protector Suite 2011 may have been dropped (unless it was renamed to TrueSuite).

So I successfully got Protector Suite 2011 running on a Dell Precision M4400. Basically you just need the proper firmware and the WBF drivers.

The thing that tripped me up, though, was that I downloaded the non-WBF version of Protector Suite since up until a few days ago, the WBF version wasn't available through the Authentec website (the UPEK website just redirected me), but now it all seems fairly accessible and well-labeled.

Now I'm just having issues in Chrome. I will have to compare the functionality of Protector Suite and TrueSuite in the coming days.

    Thanks for your walkthrough!

BTW, this should also work on first generation E-series laptops. Make sure you update the ControlVault firmware to A23 (not the latest version listed for your laptop). Even though it's not officially supported, UPEK Protector Suite is working on my E4300.

    Two new notes:

The latest version of the TrueSuite 5 Trial installs properly over the WBF setup. However, it hangs when it opens, so it may be back to Protector Suite for the time being. I know Protector Suite has more features, but I think its Google Chrome integration works better.

    More updates to come.

AFAIK, neither suite was updated to work with FF10. Perhaps the extension just requires a required version modification.

ACTUALLY, TrueSuite works great, too! It just crashes the first time you run it. After that, it works fine with WBF, even if it's not explicitly designed for it.
