I don't have a single 'simple' USB-C device. Just the USB-C and Thunderbolt docks. I didn't notice any fan noise when plugged into either of those, but I can do the draw before/after.

Thanks. I've got several devices which plug into USB-C which all trigger the increase in power drain. Even a simple USB-C to USB-A adapter with nothing plugged into the type A socket or Dell's own USB-C to RJ45 adapter not connected to a LAN cable. You should be able to confirm my observed increase in power on the 7370 and then see if the 7480 is any different.

WWAN cards for the 7480 became available today. However, the 1440p display cannot be configured with the card...

    ok so first world problems....

I ordered two 7480's one (A) with the 1440p display (and no WWAN card) and one (B) with a WWAN card installed. Im going to temporarily swap the WWAN card from laptop B to A and see if it works - and if so, order a WWAN card from ebay. I understand the 1440p display might not have the WWAN antenna's installed, i'll source them from ebay and 'hack' their placement around the keyboard (seems the display is glued together)

Delivery shows me the end of the month.

Hopefully this works, and i can have a 1440p with WWAN working, and hopefully Dell offers this as an available configuration soon.

With so many carriers including extra 'lines' I might look at adding a WLAN card to mine. What model did you order?

    hey guys,

can someone give some feedback on the fan noise and warming up of the latitude 7480?
In the review they say that the fan is noise, but how noisy, after all there is a db specification. Also I was hoping that this fan rarely runs...
So what activity leads to warm up and causes the fan to go wilde?

    Looking forward to your feedback!

    thanks !

    Hi,

I just received this computer tuesday. It's an i5-7300U with Full HD IPS screen version. I cannot hear the fan run when surfing the web. I stressed the cpu with stress-ng and it ran louder bot not that loud.

I had strange crackling noises when I charged the battery for the first time, at the end of the charging. I immediatly googled "coil whine dell" and I disabled C-state in BIOS. No more noises.

Otherwise, the machine is great, the keyboard feels very good, the build quality is very nice.

If you have any tests/questions, I can answer.

    Hi there :)

I'm brand new here. I'm looking for a home laptop (I'll make a post in the "which one should I buy" either).

I'm posting here because the 7480 is one of my favorite on my shortlist. I have a 5450 at work and I love it. For my home laptop I'd like a lighter and more powerful laptop.

I have two questions about the 7480 :
    - do you notice any coil whine ? Several reviewers/users notice it ;
    - what's the palmrest's finish ? I've read that's soft-touch. Is it the same as the one of the 5450's lid ? Or the same as the one on the XPS 13 ? The 5450 palmrest is quite "hard" and not soft-finished. I hate soft touch :p

    Thank you :)

    Hi Meijilol,

thanks a lot for giving some feedback on your new system!
In general, my major concerns were related to the noise and the hear. I must also say that I didn't consider that there might be some issue with coil whine.
Anyhow, could you please also comment on the battery life?
Any other impressions are also welcomed!

    thanks !

    Hi,

    To answer the questions,

-I notice some coil whine, it doesn't bother me because it is not very loud but note that I am not in a very quiet environment. Disabling TurboBoost and C-state didn't do anything noticeable actually.
-As I said, the fan is absolutely silent, though.
-There is a high pitching noise when I boot the machine when it is charging for like 2 seconds. When fully charged and plugged, no noise.
-The palmrest is, I think, soft touch. It is not "hard", "bare" plastic. I like it but it is quite a filth magnet.
-I have the biggest battery available and I have an easy 10 hours browsing the web on ubuntu 16.04.

Without the little coil whine, the laptop would be absolutely perfect : excellent keyboard, good trackpad, good screen, good build and feel, silent fan and I like the design. In its current state, I think it is good. I paid 950€ for it with a student discount so I am pleased but for a higher price, I might have returned it.
