    Mine's tight fit as well.
    EDIT:
It's actually not. I can put a fingernail inside, but it ist't really noticeable and I think I have to apply force to pull the bezel apart.

Does anybody know if it's safe to leave the battery in the compartment during long periods of working on AC power or Dell Command|Power manager handles it and the battery won't be affected in a bad way at all? In general, what is harmful for these batteries and what's perfectly fine?

Leave the Power Manager / BIOS to handle the charging. Once the battery is fully charged the charging will stop until there's a significant drop in the charge level which triggers a top-up charge. In addition, the final stage of the battery charging process is at a low rate with minimal damage to the chemistry.

There is an option in Dell power command to set battery to acpower usage (which treats battery better)

Laptop charges my e5470 62whr battery only to 57wh or so

Last 10% battery takes the longest, needs highest voltage, and is harshest on battery health.

Best is to leave battery at 40%, remove battery and store in cool dry location. But that makes your laptop nonportable

New battery is under $130. The portable 65whr battery is also under $130

@john @paper_wastage Thank you for detailed information!

If anybody wants to set their keyboard backlight timeout, installing Dell Feature Enchancement pack/setting a timeout under keyboard options with 'Keyboard' selection in drop-down menu and then removing it (because of horrible low-res sound icon/other useless stuff) works. I've successfully set my timer to infinity.

The computer won't be happy without the battery. It is likely to upset the balance and also the front feet are on the battery.

The slightly lower capacity E7440 battery is compatible with the E7450. That's what I'm using now and the battery has been in use for well over a year as it was previously in my E7440. I had bought it as a spare battery for a price less than half the $130 you mention. This is the battery used when I'm at home (to take the wear, not that it is showing any) with the original battery used when I'm travelling. Because the battery is thin it's also quite easy to pack in the bag if there's a need for extra time away from a power socket.

I had a similar problem before where a tiny gap popped up at the bottom of the display bezel. It wouldn't close rather it squeezed itself open as the bezel was a bit too long. Called Dell and they replaced the bezel so that it's a tight fit.

I've had an E7450 for a few months now. Recently it froze while browsing and when I turned it back on, no beep/video/post. The flashing indicators were blinking solid solid like this image http://i.imgur.com/lOmUhjy.png

Got in touch with Dell, they did a motherboard swap the next day. They also changed the power jack and replaced the heatsink. A few weeks later, it's been working fine. Yesterday it decided to crap itself on me again. Blinking solid solid.

Really frustrating. I haven't reached out to Dell yet because I was wondering if there's a way they would let me swap for a different model.

Hi, I'm new at this forum. enjoyed it a lot for wealth of info. I would like some help. I got E7450 3 weeks ago. It works well but the boot time, though not too bad, is slower than my old Toshiba laptop with gen 3 i3 processor. My E7450 is i7 with 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, windows 10 pro.
I check the bios and it has legacy bios. Is it possible that this is why boot time is not as fast ? I'm keen to change to uefi anyway. I've read on this topic and I may have to reinstall windows 10 fresh to convert.
I check that AOMEI partition assistant can do conversion MBR to GPT partition with no data loss.
Anyway, please give me ideas to convert with minimal trouble, preferably without doing fresh install etc
    Thanks in anticipation

Did Dell change the RAM when changing the mainboard. If not, make a bootable flashdrive with Memtest86 and leave that running overnight. When myE7440 started having some erratic problems it proved to be a bad module, but needed an overnight test to confirm errors.

I don't think that legacy mode will significantly slow down the boot process. More likely your problem is either due to the level of hardware checking being done by the BIOS on boot but also make sure that the SSD is at the top of the boot list.

thanks, John. I did check the BIOS, the SSD is first on booting. I guess it is nothing to complain about since it takes only about 20 seconds to boot. I just find it amazing that the 3 year old Toshiba ultrabook with gen 3 i3 can boot up in about 10 seconds. I wouldn't do anything too drastic but if there is a simple way to convert to UEFI without risk of bricking the computer, i would like to try it since everyone says that UEFI is the new way
