The slice will behave like a second internal battery and should therefore increase your run time by more than double. eg 6 hours could become 15 hours.

If you don't mind the size and weight associated with this extra capacity then look around on ebay or similar. A company could have surplus stock or some who bought one found they didn't need it. If I wanted one I would get this.

    Thanks for your helpful answer!

I'm also thinking about to replace the 256GB mSATA SSD (apparently one cannot get the i7 processor together with a smaller SSD in Germany to save some money) with a bigger SSD.

So you say it is possible to do so? I am a bit confused because I have read and so I was also told by the Dell Chat that the SSDs greater than 256GB are too big according to their meissurements to put them inside...

    Thanks in advance! :)

Very unlikely, the mSATA size is standardand defined by the screw holes...

The stock SSD is Hynx part hfs256g3amnb, size: 3.6x29.8x50.8mm, while the Samsung 1TB is 3.85x29.85x50.8 - unless that 0.25mm added thickness is an issue, it will fit.

Ignore the Dell Chat info: The 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA fits in my E7440 with no problem. I'm sure it uses the same "interposer" to fit it in the 2.5" bay as for the E7450.

Possibly the Dell person was confused because the thickness is a constraint on the options for 2.5" drives.

Right, space might only be an issue in the discrete graphics version anyway, where there is no 2.5" bay. But the mSATA drives are pretty much the same size. I also ordered the EVO 850 1TB model (actually arrived I just don't have the time until weekend to replace+install the drive), looking at the internals a few 0.1mm's in any directions shouldn't be an issue.

That's a good point about the discrete graphics version not having a 2.5" drive bay. I agree that a small difference in the mSATA drive thickness is very unlikely to be significant.

Question for the 7440/7450 owners: isn't the 1920 x 1080 resolution in the 100% scaling kinda small to read? I'm trying to decide between the 12.5" and the 14" - I find the 7250 actually more comfortable to type, and it's gotten a bit thinner and lighter too.

I'm using 125% display scaling on my E7440 with FHD panel. It's a good compromise providing good default text sizes but having the detail associated with all those extra pixels (double compared to 1366 x 768). Also, 125% scaling doesn't create serious problems for those programs that don't scale properly.

Yeah, the stupid Windows font scaling - the UI, fonts, and the icons still don't look properly/distorted. I just can't believe that Microsoft would spend time and resource on the stupid Metro but not make the font scaling work better.

Anyone tried undervolting the E7450? The goal would be two-fold: I would like to decrease temperatures while gaming (goes 80+°C) and extend battery life while working.
I want to try Throttlestop for the CPU and Afterburner for the GT 840M (not sure if the latter does undervolting for mobile...).
