Latitude 7370

Has anyone noticed any coil whine with this laptop?

 

Not me, but maybe my ears are too old to be sensitive to this problem.

Anyone have any more info on the new 7380? It is on Dell's site but with very limited configurations.

I had an XPS-13 and moved to a 7270 as the coil whine, terrible placement of webcam and lack of built in ethernet drove me crazy. Looking to upgrade again - 7280 is an option but then I came across the 7380. Looks like they moved the webcam to the top where it should be and I think has the ports I would need built in.

Still fanless like the 7370? Details seem hard to come by and I haven't found a single review.

There are a number of configurations here plus a link to the owner's manual. You will see that it has a fan and one SODIMM slot. I like the noise free fanless design of the 7370 but I suspect that many people were put off by the Core m CPU so Dell has reverted to a more conventional design.

PS: Dell have a decent-sized battery (60Whr) option for the 7380 but it may not co-exist with the optional smartcard reader.

 

Thanks. I just pulled the trigger on a couple of them. When you chat a Dell rep, they send you a link that allows different configs. Be here in a week! They did confirm webcam at the top - really seems like a slightly larger screen than the 7280. It's smaller and lighter than my 7270 but I gain .8" screen and some other goodies...

 

Would it be possibly to fit a 43mh battery to a model with fingerprint/smart card/nfc if these modules were removed first?

 

It should be possible provided that removing the security devices doesn't leave holes (particularly would removing the fingerprint reader leave a hole in the palm rest?). I attach a photo showing both batteries (43Whr at back) which shows the extra thickness at each end.

The alternative way to increase run time away from a socket is to get an external powerpack such as the Dell power companion.

I assume you would be left with a hole in the palm rest unfortunately. Not ideal.

Has anyone considered/attempted swapping the LCD back cover e.g. Swapping aluminium for carbon? I wonder If a new back cover can be sourced from Dell.

 

Here's a good price for the 43Whr battery if you are in UK. I'm tempted to get one as a spare although I'm not giving the current battery a hard time.

That's the right version of the Power Companion. You can find it on ebay refurb or open box for under £70. However, I've had this sitting in my Amazon basket for a while. It has a lot more capacity and is more versatile and, if I read the special offers correctly, it can be bought for £43.99. The output is only 30W so the 7370 will complain, but it will work (I've run my 7370 with a 30w PSU) although it's best for the external battery if it's not trying to refill the internal battery and run the computer at the same time which will cause it to run at sustained maximum output.

And while at Amazon, keep an eye on this 45W PSU. It's out of stock again, but they were selling them for £11.99. It works fine with the 7370 and includes a USB charging port.

I haven't considered swapping the display back. The Carbon Fibre one looks nice but I wouldn't spend extra money to get it. I found mine in the Outlet by selecting a notebook which didn't mention aluminium.
