It seems like nowadays all laptop processors are soldered, intel no longer provide PPGA version. All OEM affected not only Dell. The only choice now left is laptop with desktop processor. The solder is tiny soldering at 4 corners only. Not sure if it is possible to remove the solder and take out the CPU, can't see if a socket exist. Even so, there is no aftermarket laptop CPU for replacement.

It's not Dell to blame here, it is Intel. All 6th gen and up Core series mobile CPUs are soldered from now on, no matter who you buy your laptop from.

No, that is not possible. The solder is also underneath the CPU. You would have to heat the entire CPU with hot air to liquify the solder underneath to remove the CPU. There is a high risk of damaging the motherboard. This is why Dell replaces the entire motherboard.

That's because the CPU is not a user replaceable part.

With old style PR02X docked in, the 7720 is making a loud BEEP from the laptop at startup or restart, is there a way to get rid of this? I have 3 docks at 3 locations, all making the beep.
However there is no beep when use without dock.

What's connected to the dock? Any peripherals?

Monitors x2, Ethernet, USB hub (mainly for keyboard and mouse). 1 place with speakers. 1 place with KVM. All 3 places making beep.

Thank you for your clarification. Actually I have to say that Dell is great. They made the most excellent laptop, providing it with a Displayport 1.4. As I'm going to buy a 4K HDR monitor with a Displayport 1.4 connecting that is actually predetermined my purchase of Dell Precision. Maybe for today one port of Thunderbolt3 is not enough to appear, however the presence of the displayport 1.4 cover this issue. 4k PremierColor UHD display is probably one of the best for today. Many thanks to Dell.

    7. regretfully true (like most of your other comments on this notebook)
    8. checked this with PR03X (the USB3 dock) and it worked (and it was in eSATA mode instead of USB), will check this with PR02X next week

I did a boot of the 7720 in a PR02X this week and no loud beep at boot up.

Nevertheless I really like my 7720 and it was the right replacement for my fully equipped M6700. Thunderbolt is powerful and versatile...

    Cheers,
    Alex

On the dock, are you connecting to external monitor with laptop lid closed? In my case if the laptop lid is opened it will not beep with or without other monitors.

    *** UPDATE ***

Finally found the way to overcome this. The loud "beep" will only happen with the following conditions:-

    1) Old style dock
    2) External Monitor
    3) Laptop lid closed

Solution is pretty easy, just Disable Legacy Boot and the loud beep is gone for good.
