Hi, I'm new to notebookreview. Wanted to say thanks to everyone for a great thread. I'm tasked with picking out laptops for myself and a few other engineers, this thread has been very helpful.

I think I found an error on the US configuration site. I just tried to configure a 7520 with a Xeon and it gave me an error "The Xeon Processor is not compatible with the LCD." for everything but the (15.6" UHD, CAM/MIC) and (15.6" FHD Touch, CAM/MIC) options. I don't need UHD or Touch. It seams odd that a Xeon wouldn't work for the (15.6" UltraSharp FHD IPS(1920x1080) Panel 300nits Brightness w/Camera+Mic) option. I hope Dell is watching this thread and can fix it.

BTW, does anyone know what the (MOD,LCD,FHD,1.3,NTCH,LG,7520) LCD option means? Looks like a LG panel by the description but what is the 1.3 and NTCH mean? Gotta love the cryptic descriptions.

The 1.3 may stand for eDP (embedded DisplayPort) version 1.3.

    FHD = Full HD (1920 x 1080)

So in short, it's the non-touch full HD display.

There are often configuration issues right when a new model launches, like this one we are seeing with certain displays not working with the Xeon. Hopefully, these will be worked out in the next few days. You can always try to place an order over the phone with a rep, sometimes they are able to work around such things.

I think I have to reconsider some specs :D

For some reason the initial mobile xeon launch in 2015/16 the Dell sourced ECC memory wasn't available until few months after launch, not until sometime in March 2016. But today for the new 7720 launch I've no idea why it isn't available at the 7720 launch. Maybe they are out of stock?

I'd try calling as they may clear that up for you and may have ECC available. You may also get a good deal over phone. Ask if there are any good coupons/discounts they can apply. They are good in applying whatever coupons are active. I used to think I had to hunt for coupons, but by simply asking them for coupons they will apply them. Include any coupons you may have found yourself too as that doesn't hurt. You may get lucky if they double down a duplicated coupon that both you and the rep each found, unless they ask for the coupon code (sometimes they only ask how much the coupon discount was for rather than asking the code#). I don't condone nefarious behavior and wouldn't count on such favor/luck. But phone call has been my preference when ordering instead of online.

I am definitely seeing ECC memory as a choice in the 7720 on the US site...

ECC memory available up to 64 gb for the 7520 at Dell Italy.

I would like to ask the experts here what would be a good choice for the WiFi card and the monitor between these options:
    Dell Wireless™ 1820 802.11AC Dual-Band Wi-Fi + BT 4.1 (2x2)
    and
    Intel WiFi Link 8265 2x2 802.11ac+BT4.0

    FHD IPS touch (1.920 x 1.080) UltraSharp™ da 15,6"
    and
UltraSharp UHD IGZO (3.840 x 2.160) non touch

    Thanks a lot

    I've been very happy using previous version Intel 8260. I think 8260 and 8265 may be very similar with 8265 supporting MU-MIMO, 802.11r, 802.11k, 802.11v ?

usually I'm hardwired, but in past year the 8260 has never failed or caused issue when I use wifi. I choose not to use the Intel ProSet software though. I don't have any particular reason not to use ProSet other than I don't need it.
