Hey guys, was it confirmed whether or not the 4K IGZO panel is 10bit? If not can someone of you run the NEC's 10bit check software for me, please? You can download it here or just search the web for "nec 10bit check", it's the first result. Thank you!

Unfortunately, it looks like it is not 10bit. Perhaps due to my ignorance or for some other reason, I assumed the UHD IGZO panel on this laptop is 10bit (a false generalization that all uhd igzo monitors are 10bit). I have a PSD file to test this in Photoshop and to my dismay, it shows the same banding whether or not the 10bit display in the settings is enabled. Then I looked at the Nvidia control panel and, it confirmed my suspicion. It is only 8bit. It is however wide gamut and covers Adobe RGB.

On another note, I had the Dell Premier Color software installed on my Windows 10 system. However it wasn't running properly. Actually, I could not run it at all. The solution was to use the Nvidia drivers and software package from the Dell's website (version 362.46) instead of the ones Windows 10 had automatically installed (even though they are more recent). This solved the problem and I can now run Dell's PC application which I find useful for switching between color spaces.

Thank you. I was pretty certain that they are 8bit, that's why I asked :) I knew that it's wide gamut, the thing was to figure the bit depth. BTW the first DreamColor notebook (8730w) was 8bit as well, but had RGB LED backlight, which helped a lot. Your panel is WLED, but the IGZO substrate lets more light out. Of course, these are different approaches and the end result varies. Which remainds me, is there a way to check the panel's native (as in all the colors it can reproduce) RGB xy (HPs have this FULL/NATIVE option in their software)? It would be nice to put them on a CIE diagram and compare it against aRGB (which I know that it covers) as well as Rec. 2020.

    ciao guys

a problem with the full screen: using for example the win10 default video player or WMP if I try to run whatever video in full screen, it will be black. The problem is also in the browser (chrome, IE, Edge) if I try to run a youtube video in the full screen....
Only VLC is able to let me see the full screen without problem
This happens ONLY when the notebook goes out to U2410 Dell external monitor.

Using the notebook alone (so with its own screen) the "black screen" in the player or in the browser is not a problem anymore...

I really don't understand the problem and how to solve it....

The system: 7710 no TB, M3000M, IGZO 4k...

Can anyone help me find a second hard drive. I have ordered a Precision 7710 with just a primary SSD drive - "256GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS" and want to install a second 1TB SSD myself. I've been search on google for compatible drives but can't find a single site that shows compatible M.2 PCIe drives. I'm not sure but the Samsung SM961 1TB may be the only one I could find (which is not out yet).

Also is it easy to install on the machine or do I need a Dell technician to do it? I don't want to take it apart too much afraid may break something.

    Thanks

    My 77100 specs:
    Intel Xeon E3-1575M v5
    32GB (4x8GB) 2667MHz DDR4 Memory Non-ECC, MPWS
    Nvidia Quadro M5000M, 8GB GDDR5

In addition to the Samsung SM961 1TB NVMe SSD there is the PM951 1TB NVMe which is the OEM 1TB solution that was available at the 7510/7710 launch with respectable numbers. But the PM951 1TB isn't easy to find for sale online, being that it is an OEM.

Here are the numbers I get with the pm951 1TB

If given the choice, I'd wait for the faster SM961 1TB.

I see that a few other companies (OCZ, ADATA, TOSHIBA, etc) are releasing 1TB M.2 PCIe gen 3 x4 lane SSDs soon too (if not already)...

My 7710 came with the two little screws necessary to install the NVME PCIe ssd (I wasn't certain if they were there or not so I bought a box of tiny screws to have on hand for $10 but didn't need them afterall.)
You'll also need a tiny phillips screwdriver (the size used for glasses, and laptop screws).
I found it to be nice and easy to access and install.

The XPS13 uses the 15W dual core processor. Intel has said that the quad core 45W+ processors will not be out for a while.
