Could someone help with detecting if particular unit has Thunderbolt port? I see word "thunderbolt" mentioned in the Components List like this:

    MFNR8 MOD,ASSY,BASE,QC1,W/T-C,7710
    Part Number Description Quantity
    X3D3T SERVICE CHARGE, SOFTWARE, THUNDERBOLT, 7X10 1

But not sure what 'software' or '7x10' means.. Tried to reach out couple online chats on dell, but looks like they are not interested if it is not them selling it (i am looking to buy this laptop on ebay from reseller)

Also, does anyone has tips on how to get one from Outlet? Everytime I check it - it is empty.

    Thanks!

Keep checking the outlet. You're not alone in wanting one of these at a good price so IF one gets to the outlet, it won't be there long.

I got my 7710 a week ago from Merkamericaco. (They sell on ebay and on their website, not the same stock always, but they have quite a selection. Since they include Prosupport one pays a bit extra). I asked on chat which had thunderbolt (not many, but they gave me a list of product numbers). I was lucky since they had a configuration that suited me well (didn't need the M3000M but anyway). I sent messages to a lot of the vendors on e-bay, and so far, almost none of the machines have Thunderbolt(even hight end ones with Xeon and M5000M), I assume that will be changing, or there are a lot of returns of machines from people who forgot to order TB.
Anyway, I am sure I could have gotten a somewhat better price from dell outlet, but I was happy with what I got, especially since they ship to Canada.
Good luck with finding the machine you want.
Oh, I am still waiting for my ram (Kingston 2400 CR14), the configuration I got was lacking ram(8gb) so I can't run my VM....

I have a question about the batteries.
My new 7710 (a refurb purchased on ebay) is supposed to have an regular 91wh expresscharge battery.I looked at it and it says: 91wh MFKVP Regular battery.
I am confused, because in the Bios, there is no expresscharge setting and it says that I can't set options because it is a long life cycle battery.
How can I identify the battery?
    thanks in advance.

The DELL refurb was probably sold as expresscharge because the battery stickers are not well labeled and says "regular" without the word "pollymer" anywhere on the sticker. The seller legitimately probably thought it was the expresscharge. But I think you should go by what your BIOS report.

There has been alot of confusion by many of us on here about the 7710 batteries that are shipped (Polly Long Life vs nonPolly ExpressCharge). I think you have the Long Life Polly battery. I say that because I have a couple laptops that we ordered as the Long Life Polly and it came with the MFKVP which is labeled as "Regular" on the battery sticker. But in BIOS it shows express charge disabled, implying it is the Polly. Others on here who also ordered the polymer report that they have the MFKVP that shows Long Life in BIOS with expresscharge disabled.

I've yet to hear from others though who ordered an expressCharge battery direct from Dell. I would be interestted to see what Part# is displayed on their battery sticker or if the expressCharge is enabled in their Bios.

the 7x10 means it is their generic reference for both the 7510 and 7710.

Here is one of the Packing Slips with codes for a xeon 1535 7710 with Thunderbolt that we ordered. Not sure if the TB3 item number changes depending on the processor it is bundled with. Also note, some of these are component #s and some are bundled components item #. In other words, I'm not sure how accurate or static my list below is for use as a gauge on if TB3 is included in a system. These are probably about as accurate as the unit prices listed next to them. And to add to the confusion... these Item ID#s shown are not the same as a Part# that you would see on a sticker/label. And on top of that, a supplier's Part# is not always the same as the Sellers part # (Dells Part#). So, if you were to order online from a 3rd party seller I would suggest to get guarantee from the seller for return and exchange option.

    Thanks for the reply.
Linux also reports the battery as "technology: Lithium Polymer", that would imply long life cycle, correct?

What are some general/fundamental issues that I should look out for about the 7710 that people typically complain about here, however minor?
