I'll try disabling fastboot and hibernation and see if that helps.

It sounds as if the OS is going into hibernate but the BIOS is either not receiving instructions to shut down or is not following the instruction to shutdown.

Disabling hibernation fixed the shutdown issue, though I don't believe this is an exceptable solution. This $5,000 machine should be perfectly capable of hibernating just as good as my $200 Acer.

Even after hibernation disabled the machine still becomes unresponsive with a black screen after being idle for a few hours.

Just taking a guess here... it looks to me that you might have a driver that is not cooperating...

I am not sure if this has been posted but Adorama has the Crucial ECC DDR4 2400 mhz modules. 2x16 kit runs $184. Dell still does not appear to be offering the 16 GB ECC chips yet.

I received a 7710 last week from Dell with ECC 16GB modules. They were a bit hidden in their online order config under "Others". 64GB ECC installed by Dell.

I was wondering if there are settings that need to be adjusted for changing you system over to ecc ram? I have removed the original ram but cannot get the m7710 to boot with the crucial 16 GB chips. According to Crucial it should work. Dell Pro support is also clueless......

No, I just removed bundled 8gb non ecc and replaced with 2x8gb ecc ram, works like charm.

Has anyone sucessfully made a DOS boot disk for the 7710? None of mine seem to work with it.
