I deactivated the w7170M in the device manager as I cannot use quicksync with it enabled.
I suppose I was only running on the intel 530 of the CPU.

As I never encountered these flashes on the machine while docked with an external display, I suspect the problem might be somwhere between the display itself and its data cable.

Thanks for the reply. I had tried all of this and more with no luck. After two days of trying, I contacted my pro support person and they tried troubleshooting for an hour with no luck.

My FIPS fingerprint reader doesn't work either so he took a look at that as well.

He ended up finding an internal discussion between engineers that acknowledged there's a BIOS issue and that a Bios update would be released to fix the GPU issue but no ETA. We're holding out for the BIoS update.

He's having the high complexity problem team call me today to further investigate my fingerprint reader. We'll see how that goes.

Dude, how did you score this deal? I just bought a XPS 15 9550 for this same price. The reps could only find me systems that run $2k plus. Anyway I could replicate this deal? Do I need an order # or something to replicate? Enlighten me!

my laptop doesn't like sleeping sometimes.

Specifically, if I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid/display, then unplug power cable... the next time I open my laptop it does not continue from sleep but instead begin new reboot with DELL splash logo.

2nd scenario (passes): If I unplug power from my laptop first, then close the lid... the next time I open my laptop it awakes from sleep exactly where it left off.

3rd scenario (passes): If my laptop is plugged in, I close lid, then later reopen the lid (never unplugging the laptop), it awakes from sleep as it should without rebooting.

4th scenario (passes): If my laptop is unplugged, I close lid, then reopen the lid, it awakes from sleep as it should.

Basically, as long as I don't plug or unplug the power to the laptop after it is sleeping, everything is fine and it awakes from sleep when summoned.

The struggles of having early BIOS I guess. ha. Actually there is a FEB BIOS update I may upgrade to. I'm at BIOS version 1.3.10 and the latest is BIOS 1.3.12. I'm expecting good things Dell. Don't let me down.

Actually, I'm going to hold off on upgrading BIOS. The systems seem so finicky I would hate to disable my system in any way just in attempts to make life more convenient sleep.

Dell Outlet has used/refurbished systems. Cheaper but limited in availability. Often snatched up by eBay resellers.

I meant to comment on that awesome price too but forgot. That was a sweet deal.... M5000M alone is like a $1000 upgrade just in itself.

I know man! I have heard that they will match a previous order if i can give them an order # or invoice to look up.

I just purchased my XPS 15 9550 from them and I am happy with it. However, I would love to get my hands on the 7710 at the same price. This will match my old 2600k desktop system in computing power along with pretty much having a 980m on board.

@YellowZ06 whatever you do, don't sell your yellow ZO6 for a laptop. I'm keeping my eyes open on the dell outlet for the new precisions. Our company bought a few back in 2010 or 11 or so from the outlet. Very good experiences

It was on Monday. There were a number of m7710s that kept coming in and out of stock. I finally managed to snag one - there were a few of these configurations at this price. When it shipped, I checked the service tag and it shows the same specs but instead of a 256 SSD it shows a 1 TB PCIe ssd..... There have been a number of issues lately with inaccurate descriptions on the Dell outlet so we will see when it arrives on Friday.

I noticed that the Ubuntu option is gone from the online configurator...if I call a Dell sales rep, do you think they'd be able to configure a system with it still?
