Apparently the request was for a completely different model, but he didn't state which one... have to wait till next week for an update anyway. Interesting though. I guess the other guy got tired of me emailing him daily.

What an order. This new guy gets back to me and starts off basically saying that they can't do what the other guy promised and he wants to ship me a E6530. Yup, a model that's a year old. There was obviously a misunderstanding between what he was told when he was given the case, and what actually happened. After a long and ridiculous conversation, I get him back on the M3800 replacement and I'm trying to get him to do what the other guy promised me. He wouldn't do anything that I didn't have in writing from the previous rep. Long story short I basically got the ultimatum of take the M3800 base model (which I was told I could have the upgraded battery which meant I needed a mini ssd card. This guy refused to give me a different hard drive because I didn't have anything about the battery in writing) or take the year old E6530. So I took the M3800.

Then I asked about the warranty extension that I was also promised. It wasn't in writing either. He finally agreed to it, but he made it seem like he was doing me a huge favor.

He kept repeatedly saying that this was my second system exchange and it was basically going to be a problem if I needed another one. Neither was my fault. The first machine was ruined by one of their contracted Techs. It's not like I was demanding anything, I was promised things by the previous rep who apparently lied about everything. I'm so furious with Dell. This is bull crap. What reason do they have for lying to a customer? I just.. I don't even know what to say about all this. I wish someone at Dell who actually gave a crap would read this.

I'm supposed to get an order number Tuesday. For some reason I doubt that's actually going to happen.

Considering the price of the M3800 I'm surprised they would have offered you any upgrades with it. I'd pop that thing on ebay

I feel for you mate, over there dell seem to have let customer service slip huge amount. I just bought an e6540 from the outlet, rang them up to complain about throttling and they tech in Sydney just said "look just wait a sec let me see about something" Then after about 5 mins on hold the tech came back and said " we just replaced a screen on a M6800, that has the same cpu, better graphics, an extra fan but no SSD just a hybrid . It's a fair bit heavier, but we could do a swap if you want?"

So i jumped, it arrived yesterday and man, what a beast! Gets 20 fps on furmark 1080p benchmark, 26,000 on cinebench 10, and 75 Gflops on intel burn test... What a machine...

I can't believe Dell are taking you on such a ride hizzaah, it's absolutely appalling.

Spam the 'Michael Dell' email address until you get your problem solved, it's disgusting that Dell would treat you like this.

Initally, I wanted a refund. They were the ones who offered it to me. And on a single issue like this, the price wasn't the concern initially. Both of these last two reps said they would stick to their policy of "equal or better" replacement specs. Which they aren't sticking to. At the last minute, all of a sudden the extra cost to go to the smallest mini ssd card was insurmountable and he would never get it approved. I'm like who do you have to get approval from? The last guy didn't need to get approval, he was just going to do it..?

And I'm going to sell it as soon as I get it. Even if I did like it, it's not worth dealing with Dell at this point. I mean, I'll make a profit on it. That wasn't my intent when I started this whole thing, but now that I can get something else and still come out on top, I'm slightly less angry.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet deal! As long as portability isn't an issue for you, sounds like a big win!

Yup. I'm drafting a rather lengthy email to send to MD as we speak. I've got names, dates, emails, etc that I'm including. I've never received treatment like this and they have lost someone who used to be a very loyal customer.

    Hi all,

I just wanted to post my impressions of this notebook.
So this morning the e6540 arrived AS an replacement for a defect inspirion 7537.
All in all i must tell im more than satisfied. I have no problems sich throttling or noisy fan all. I followed this thread while waiting for my device an was afraid i would face the same issues that are described here.
I did run prime95 stress test for 20 minutes and the CPU was at Constantin 2700 MHz and the noise lvl was mich loser than with my 7537!!!

So my impression is now that sind few people misused this forum to gain Mord weight when i teracting with dell support or had just Bad luck.

Im a satisfied customer and wanted to share this with the world.

Sry for the Bad grammar. Typing on a german phone...

    Cheers

Congratulations on getting a functional unit.

The throttling and heat issues is as bad as they sound for the rest of us who use demanding applications unfortunately.

Just got my M3800 (a week early actually so idk where they actually grabbed this unit from), and I have to say, I like the E6540 a lot more. The M3800 just doesn't feel productive, no number pad and the keyboard is extremely cramped due to the giant touch pad. The glossy 1080p screen seems to be much nicer, and the touch screen is welcomed after I installed the included Win 8 upgrade. I'm having trouble getting it to install updates, and at the moment any options to adjust screen brightness are disabled, but I'll have more time to mess with it this afternoon. Based on all this though, I'm really not going to keep it. My girlfriend is pretty enamored with it though, so I might give it to her instead of selling it. She's long due for an upgrade and specs will give her a nice bump in her design programs over the simple i5-540M she's got in her mobile now.

The build quality on it is great though. It's extremely solid and I was surprised at how heavy it is for being so thin. Unboxing was a nice experience as well. It had a real premium feel to it whereas the E6540 is simply shoved in a box, bound by plastic.

Congrats on getting a functioning machine! It seems there are a few out there. If nothing else, the E6540 should be a decent upgrade in build quality.

Word weight was not gained from this forum. In my case, I used this forum as a place to see if others had the same issue and to document my progress (or lack there of). I have had enough interactions with Dell to know that they do not care what a single person thinks. I went through 4 different reps and 2 "escalations" after that and do you know how many of them read what I posted? One. A single person read what I posted. They didn't even include any of the information in the case notes (they few notes they actually bothered to include were mostly wrong any way). They don't give a crap what people on here think..

So they overnighted a replacement machine (same model) and at first I thought there was hope since it had a slightly different heatsink and a different fan, but ultimately the throttling still was present - though it did take a little longer.
