Anybody have any 'mods' physical or otherwise for this model? Perhaps something to make the speakers louder, etc?

Get in touch with Samsung or the retailer where you purchased it and ask whether they can provide the spacer.

I am fairly certain Dell uses the 30-pin LG LP156WF1(TP)(B1) FHD panel. The nice AUO displays are all 40-pin.

I believe the Precision 4500 used that TPB1 panel, but the last time I checked, the XPS-15 and E6520 used the LP156WF1-TLA1 for the stock 1080p panel and that is a 40-pin - just like the AUO panels. Below, are the current 900p/1080p dual channel LVDS cables for both the E6520 and the XPS-15 L501/2x. You can see they are both 40-pin interfaces.

    I use Breakaway Audio Enhancer.

Set the Range to 100 and then crank the volume up. Much better than standard speakers.

Also, in Windows Playback Devices, set loudness equalization to ON and either the shortest or longest setting for maximum loudness.

Thanks for the laptop by the way.

    All,

I just got my new e6520 with the 1080p matte screen (non IPS) and I have to say...this screen is terrible! I have terrible 'screen door effect' on this 1080p screen... I can clearly see the vertical lines running up and down the screen.... I'm very disappointed and there is not much I can do as this is a work machine and I already returned an IBM due to a fuzzy screen that caused headaches.... I read these boards at length before choosing this laptop and did not see one person complaining about this on the 1080p screen... ugh!!

Does anyone else see this on their 1080p screen?

How hard would it be to swap out this screen myself?

    1) Check in your display settings (and of course the size of stuff on your screen) to make sure you have the 1920x1080 screen and that Dell didn't accidentally send you a 1366x768 screen.

    2) Could you run HWInfo and post what it shows under the "Monitor" tab? It would be very useful to know the model number if this is in fact a 1080p screen. Post a screenshot if you can, otherwise post the model number would be awesome as well.
