I am a little disappointed in the keyboard, trackpoint, and touchpad on my E6500. My first concern is that the sensitivity is so low. I have to turn up the Windows mouse sensitivity to get it to my normal mouse speed. This makes it very hard to use a external mouse since the external mouse will then be SUPER sensitive.

The keyboard keys and mouse buttons also feel real loose and have a lot of play on top of the actual button. The action of the keys feels fine. They just feel so loose. But I guess I can't really do anything about this and will get used to it.

My bigger concern is the TrackPoint drifting. I like using the TrackPoint and it is constantly drifting in a direction and I have to stop using it briefly for it to settle. I had to uninstall the drivers to stop it from skipping so badly.

Anyone else experienced bad skipping with the drivers and/or drifting in the trackpad?

Wondering if this is a driver issue that might be fixed or if it could be a defective TrackPoint.

I know the drifting from old Toshiba notebooks. On the Toshiba notebooks it had nothing to do with the driver, the Mouse Point simply got stuck somehow from time to time. You had to remove the rubber head, you put it back and it worked again.

You have to download the alps driver for touchpad. You get further speed control with it.

For the trackpoint, if its an unfixable physical issue, best to not use it.

Trackpoint availability is one of the reasons I'm considering an e-series instead of just getting a Thinkpad. Not good to hear this. Have you used a Thinkpad? A little drifting now and then is normal on a Trackpoint. Would love to hear a comparison from someone who has used both.

I have not used a ThinkPad. But I did use an older Inspiron for a long while at a friends house which had a TrackPoint. Never drifted or got stuck in one direction.

Best not to use it? It is one of the reasons I got this laptop also.....

A new issue I now notice that is even MORE annoying. I cannot press some keys from one row and the row parallel to it at the same time. For example, try pressing 'c' and 'd' or 'v' and 'g' or 'j' and 'y' at the same time. Maybe this one is related to drivers?

I will try my luck with the drivers again.

Just a limitation of a cheap keyboard controller?

I guess so :( Disappointing... My friends precision does not exhibit these behaviors. Drivers only make it worse (skipping, stuttering added to drifting). :(

Sounds like it doesn't have proper 3-key rollover :(

You can only press certain combination of arrow keys at the same time, also. Very annoying for some games.
