I noticed slight crackling on my E6400 w/discrete video. Haven't had a chance to look into it yet, so far only head while watching a streaming web clip and thought that was the cause. Do you have the problem when listening to MP3's and such?

I will spend a little time this weekend looking into the problem.

How often do you guys get crackling audio? Is it every couple seconds, or is it just once a minute?

Dell technicians replaced the crackling speakers on my M4400. They even offered to fully replace it (?) which I found a little awkward of Dell. They must be surprised that these business lines had faulty equipment and wanted to study them or something. I declined...forget a refurb.

Best 15" laptop speakers Ive heard....treble hungry though...

I♥RAM, I really doubt that you would get a refurb. I don't think that there are enough of them yet.

    **** you're right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't think of that way...I should've asked if itll be brand new. But now there are absolutely -0- faults on this computer. Every piece of hardware works, the screen is pixel flawless...I don't wanna risk it :(

I would absolutely not risk it. Even if they offered to exchange for a brand new laptop, I would flat out decline it.
They use many different screens, some have one or two dead pixels, some uneven screen brightness etc.

If you have a perfect laptop now, you are super duper lucky and should feel just great about it (even if took some service).

Some asus resellers charge $200 or so for a no-dead pixel guarentee...

I have the e5500 and I have the problem with crackling audio as well. I have tried to zero in on the problem and I think I have finally nailed it. Last night I tried to remove the wifi card to see if interference from the wireless is the reason for the crackling sound. It seems it is! At least with no wifi there is no crackling. Also when I turn off the wifi on the switch on the e5500 the sound cleans up nicely. I will try to install another wifi card to see if the problem is with the wifi card itself or if it is simply bad design. Either way I am going to call Dell to hear what they have to say about it. I seriously hope that a fix will ba available.

I totally agree with you. I've had my E6400 a couple of days now and the crackling audio is only present when the Intel 5100 wifi card is active. Otherwise I'm very happy with the machine. Hope they will have an update for the wifi to fix this..

e6400 with integrated graphics here. no crackling. I did have a crackling problem with my old laptop (hp) when the wifi was active and it was never resolved.
