    anyone else have this?
tried with xp sp3 and vista business, still get crackling audio.
tried reinstalling drivers, even tried w/o nvidia drivers.

present w/ and w/o headphones. Listening to music, a song will crackle/skip throughout the song. Even the windows startup sound crackles.

    Quite disappointing.

edit: btw i have the Dell WLAN 1397

xp has an idt driver which still crackles. i even put my pcmcia audigy card in there and it crackled as well :(

i feel like i spend 1800 on a laptop i can at least expect to have basic audio working. oh well, i'll call dell in the morning and see what they have to say.

I'm using vista as well. Didn't really look into it anymore but its not solved yet. I was mostly busy getting my dvd burner to work. (getting a replacement one tomorrow, hope it solves my problems).

More time for the audio issue after that :(

thanks for the response. I ended up just returning. UPS will be by tomorrow to pick it up.

Ordered a better-specd t500 instead for slightly cheaper. Main thing i will miss is the LED screen which looked absolutely gorgeous. Otherwise, dell can keep the rest. Funny that my i8600 was $900 and still works perfect to this day (3yrs later).

matva, sorry to hear about your troubles with the sound crackling. I had a similar experience with the Dell D630 and ended up returning it. You can read about it here if you'd like. Based on that experience, it seems that the audio skips may be due, in part, to the presence of a discrete video chip.

Can anyone here confirm that they get skip-free audio with the Intel integrated video chip on the E6400 or E6500?

    Thanks

Well, i did have the nvidia card.

after reading your thread, i'm leaning more towards the video card than the wireless card (which my research suggested was the culprit). This is based on the fact that i disabled the wireless card and uninstalled the drivers and i still go the skipping, and the fact that the problem was there with my pcmcia audigy card as well. The only other time i've experienced this type of crackle was on my desktop which was solved by reinstalling my nvidia drivers.

My M4400 has crackled speakers as well. Disgusting.

They'll be sending out a technician soon  ... I hope the replacement of the motherboard / speakers don't screw anything else up, as I've heard others experience.

    :(

Hm is it only on some motherboards? Or are we the only ones complaining. I guess if its a design flaw replacing anything wont really help.
