Came across the tape on a couple of my replacements. Seems to keep the base anchored a little better....but agreed....double-sided tape is no substitute for engineering.

I got my SECOND replacement E6420. There are dings on this one and the fingerprint reader does not work at all. Can't wait to see what's wrong with #4. Sigh.

There was no tape on my replacement unit which does not have the popping bottom plate.

So does anyone know if we can't use Sandforce SSD in Dells? Over at Ocz forum is saying there are problems...

My E6420 was delivered last week, doesn't seem to have the popping issue.
But it is damaged on the sides, you need to look very closely so I'll keep it

It's bigger than expected for a 14", my previous E5400 was smaller and now I also upgraded to the 9-cell battery. Windows gives you 8-9 hours with the screen half-dimmed.

Can anybody recommend a backpack? I was looking for the Case Logic 14" (DLBP-114) but it's too small with the 9-cell battery. Laptop dimensions are 27x36 with the 9-cell battery!

You can use the SSD as a replacement for the internal HDD (use the SSD as the boot drive to get the best benefit and Intel provide a free cloning software to make that easy). It would also fit in the optical drive bay if the adaptor can take 9.5mm high drives. You may be able to reduce the drive to 7mm thick (see this thread) in which case it will fit without any worries.

    Thanks.

I was wondering if I would remove internal 500gb drive if it is possible to use it in optical drive bay via some adapter?
Or there are not any sucha adapters and I can only buy Dell official 320GB drive?

See this thread. I believe it is still relevant although I don't have first-hand experience of the latest Latitudes.
