I did a quick search for you, but I could not find anywhere that the modular bay is sata iii, so I guess it is sata ii. "You could give Sisoft Sandra Lite a try that should tell you (under Mainboard/Diskcontroller). SiSoftware Zone"

Sadly it says SATA 300 which is apparently marketing speak for SATA II.

There is also a new Bios update out.

Hi - I am looking to install a webcam on my E6420 (forgot to include on the original purchase :() - is this possible? Searching the web I have found the replacement bezel, but I am not sure of the part number for the webcam itself. Appreciate any help you guys can give on this...

I'm having trouble with my 16GB kit. I picked up a G.Skill kit and the BIOS recognizes 16GB. Windows (Ultimate x64) shows "Installed Memory: 16.0GB (6.92GB usable)."

    What gives?

The newer E series Latitudes and Precisions use the same webcam. It is Dell # CJ3P2.

Here is one: New Dell Latitude E6420 2.1M Web Camera CJ3P2 | eBay

Your existing LVDS cable that feeds the mic module is the same lead used to interface to the webcam module so a new one is not needed.

Reset your BIOS back to the default settings, restart windows, then check it again. If all is good, go back into the BIOS and change the settings as needed.

Also make sure your Windows cache memory settings are correct.

Lastly, which CPU and video chipset are you using? The i3 and i5 have limitations.

OK, I bet you $0.25 that one of you RAM modules is not 100% inserted. It is possible to be partially inserted and still show the full amount of memory "installed", but not all the IC lines are making proper contact so the "usable" memory is less.

Try removing both memory sticks, securely reseat only ONE at a time and test each stick separately. Once you confirm both are good on their own, reseat both and make sure they are 100% inserted in their respective socket.

    ^You owe me a quarter... :p

I tried each memory stick in both slots (4 tries) all showed 8GB/6.92GB usable. I tried switching and putting both memory stick in...16GB/6.92GB usable...what the heck?!?!
