Have a look in Task Manager to see what processes are using more than 2/3%. Something is obviously running.

Also try Performance Monitor and look at the disk activity.

When I connect to my television via HDMI cable, the television screen is ok, but my laptop display brightness switch to maximum and I cannot change it... Do you have any idea how can I solve this?

Long story but I must replace the motherboard on my E6420. Based on the numbers on my board I have a H2YDF model. I note online that there are MANY motherboard models for this laptop. Anyone know what the differences are or specifically if there are equivalent models for my machine? As long as I am replacing, any type of upgrade to my model would make sense.

    I have seen motherboard model numbers 8VR3N, X8R3Y, PH12P, 520H0, K6F2H and others!!

For those you guys trying out 2nd hdd bay (a.k.a e-modular bay), how's the battery life? Did you find any program or software that make it easier to activate it whenever you need it? Also my the SATA mode in BIOS is currently RAID. It also loads the Intel Rapid Storage page when booting. If I try to change the SATA mode to anything else: AHCI, ATA, or Disabled. I get a BSOD after the Windows logo shows up.

I also got about 5 hours with my 9 cell battery. I changed back to AHCI (I have done this before, and can't believe I forgot about the registry edit I need to do). I am also trying out HotSwap! and see how it goes. Since I am using my 2nd hdd for backup/storage purpose, it should serve me better. I will update if there is any significant improvement. I just deleted the Intel Rapid Storage Technology because of its page that slows down the boot up and the presence of a software that seemed unnecessary for my purpose.

I am back with Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Because 1) Switching back and forth with DVD drive is not possible without it, at least for me. 2) HotSwap would not work without it and HotSwap can spin down the drive to improve the battery life. BIOS boot page that slows down the startup AND the GUI page for IRST that is unnecessary for non-Raid users can be worked around by following step:
Open services.msc by typing win+r, disable the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
The IRST driver will still be used which may still give you a tiny bit fraction of performance improvement as shown by some benchmarks. Everything solved.

Quick question, just bought a E6420 and want to add a 2nd SSD via the modular bay. Does the bay & adapter fully support SATA III 6gb/s or is it SATA II? Just want to make sure or I might as well just find a cheap SSD to put in there.

    Thanks
