I don't game a lot either, but am tired of messing with the Intel cards. Hopefully you have better luck than I did. I usually have my machine docked with the lid closed (on a 2209WA) and for some reason recent kernels just haven't worked very well with the Intel driver. Older versions (around the Fedora 10/11 days) worked pretty well. I'm the network admin at my company, and spec/purchase all the laptops, so I'm going to try out a 6410 with the Nvidia GPU and see how it does. Sometimes it sucks getting a new laptop every 4-6 months ;)

They did this because some people (myself included) had fitment problems with some esata cables. With the contoured plugin, some cables didn't seat fully into the connector. Who really cares if it's square or contoured? FWIW, my E4300 has a square cut out and the 6400 and 6500 is contoured. The E4300 ironically never has had any issues with esata cables either...go figure....

can someone who ordered a nvidia 3100m option please post their order details from dell's web site (with out the personal informatiom ofcourse)

I just ordered one with nvidia graphics, but i do not see anything obvious in my ordered detail that it includes one. The email i recieved from dell does say it is there. But the dell's order status page does not show a part that includes nvidia.

I just dont want to wait for it and then recieve a wrong laptop.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hey Ravic.

I ordered my 6410 last week from dell.com in the US with the 3100m and my parts list on the order confirmation most definitely includes the 3100m. If you don't see it there you might want to call Dell.

In response to this concern, I just received my E6410 from the Dell Outlet. The product information specified a WXGA+ display; however, upon receiving the notebook, I have found that they shipped a WXGA display. While I did get a good deal, they misrepresented the product, regardless of whether their system is equipped for differentiating among displays.

Just a forewarning to those scoping the Outlet, you very well may receive a low-end display, and there is really no way of ensuring you receive the specifications you believe you are paying for.

Now I must begin the arduous process of filing a claim and ensuring they meet my demands :/ Just how convenient that the FedEx guy dropped off the laptop right before their support office closed.

Edit: Actually, upon further inspection, it appears that their system does have specifications that distinguish between WXGA and WXGA+ displays. My experience may actually be isolated.

are you referring to the email from dell or order status page?

Can you post the item number and description you see from dell order status page for the nvidia card (something similar to J139T).

I can use that to let dell know that mine does not include it and get it corrected quickly.

    Thanks for your quick reply

Anyone else having issues while playing videos (typically YouTube and other embedded web videos like those on joystiq)?

    I am having two problems:

    (1) Sometimes the video just shows up as a white pixely mess... can't see the content at all, just outlines of it as the pixels move. Hard to describe. This is what many of the vids on joystiq and gametrailers look like.

    (2) Other times it seems to work fine, but then blue screens shortly after starting the video. Have to hold in the power button to turn off then restart. Seems to happen more frequently playing YouTube videos full screen in HD.

I have the Intel graphics chipset. I finally managed to install the updated Intel driver that is available (they attempt to thwart you at every turn to get you to use the Dell version), but it seems to make no difference. Still the same two issues.

I also had an MP3 file lock me up today... no idea if it's related, but it's odd. Stopped with the sound active and playing the same tone until I got it to shutdown.

No problems with crashing other than video and the one audio file.

    Using Win7 Ultimate x64 with 4GB RAM.

Could someone here tell me whether the E6410 has the same throttling problems of the E6400, and whether the cooling system handles modern games well?

The 3100m is listed in both the dell order status page and the purchase confirmation email.

    It is listed as:

320-8795 512MB NVIDIA NVS 3100M with ExpressCard, Dell Latitude E

I'd suggest that you contact Dell Technical Support. I'd start with the "Chat Online with Technical Support" option to begin with. All you need is your service tag #, but you've probably got it memorized by now.

I can guess what the issue might be. My guess is that you'll end up talking with Customer Service.

Notebookcheck.com recently did a fairly in depth review of the E6410 here: Notebookcheck: Test Dell Latitude E6410 Notebook

I don't know German so I can't tell you if they tested modern gaming in their review. In their review of the E6510, which I can report on because it is in English, they did speculate their might be some throttling issues, quoting them: "The fact that the frame rates are below that of comparable notebooks, as is shown in the Quadro NVS 3100M, could be due to the excessive heating under load and a possible throttling." Obviously not a definitive ruling on this.
