I can say that the sound on the E6410 is well above normal laptop
    I was quite surprised..
Once I hooked up to a projector and I used the speaker from the E6410
to the max for quite some time and no distortion and the sound was clear.

Sounds really good... in my first test, I played the movie Gamer... my goodness, it sounded good. Actually, I was looking for the how the movie would look on the screen since I'm coming from a 15.6 dell... the sound was a big bonus.

E6410 arrived today. Finally finsihed installing Win 7 Ultimate 64, Office professional plus 2010, and all the other standard software.

    Things that surprised me:

    1) The screen size does not seem that much different from my 15.6. Thought I would see the difference. Performed some runs with software and nothing seemed to be an issue.

    2) Build quality is excellent. Everything on the laptop is tight.

    3) It is darn fast. Opening up browsers, many software titles did not slow this thing down. I did not think going from a c2d (2.2) would make that much of a difference. Given my current desktop build will last me two years, I'm wondering if I'll even bother building a desktop again (I don't need the power).

    4) The backlit keyboard is wonderful. Finally I can watch a movie do work in the dark and not have to wonder if I'm hitting the right key. Best part is the light goes off after a couple of seconds of no typing. Very good.

    5) It is light. I put on my scale and it came in at 5.1 lbs. It is a shipping scale so it is very accurate. So it weights about 2 or 3 TONS less than my Dell 1520. lol

    6) I don't like the little stick in the keys... pointer or whatever you want to call it. Well, I need to adjust to it... I know I can disable it, but I'd like to remove it. lol

    7) Was going to get the momentus XT 500 SSD/Hard drive mix... think I'll wait now. This 7200 drive seems to be doing just fine. I might skip to an SSD later this year, if the prices come down. (I may wake tomorrow morning and buy the momentus... lol... who knows.)

    8) Did not care for the SD slot... I don't own a SD card... have plenty of micro SD cards. Guess I can get an adapter... lol... not even sure it is worth it.

    9) As mentioned in the above post, the sound was above normal. I'm not sure what sound is like on newer laptops, but this one sounds much better than my 1520. I don't spend tons of times on laptops listening to music... I'm working.

6410 was a perfect choice for me... weight, screen size, and speed.

That's a very plausible weight - fractionally less than my E6400.

I don't use it, but I never notice that it is there.

I keep an SD card size micro-SD adaptor in the slot.

Glad to hear that Dell have improved this aspect. The speakers are are of the E6400's less good features.

Assuming that you have the WXGA+ display, all that 15.6" offers is an extra 160 pixels width and a lot more weight.

No, Goodbytes, the GPU is Intel HD (aka GMA HD) mobile. More powerful, more efficient than the X4500HD that is used on previous generation of CPU's like the C2D's.

    Check this out:

The Intel Core i3 530 Review - Great for Overclockers & Gamers - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

If you use it to play videos, you will really appreciate its support of HD audio formats such as TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.

So why don't there seem to be any real reviews of this out there anywhere?

Just forum postings... which are very helpful, but not neccessarily as thorough and complete as I would like.

Would love to see a full blown review with nice pictures and all.

I think Dell is less active than some manufacturers in giving out review notebooks. My E6400 review was one of the first because I needed the notebook quickly (the Zepto had abysmal battery life) but the E6410 doesn't offer enough improvements to cause me to get one in haste. I may wait for another year in the hope that the CPUs mature further (and also my E6400 is getting to the end of its warranty period).

lenovo offers them too... just for a substantially higher price...

i read somewhere here that i can save money on the keyboard backlight by buying it separately. can somebody link me to this? i'm not good at searching this. >_<

    edit------------
aside from all of that, if i remove the "recovery partition", slap linux on the machine, am i voiding the warranty? (win7 is still installed)
(and im going to buy this machine when a new coupon comes out)

Look on ebay for the E6400 backlit keyboards. They were reported near the start of this thread to be the same.

You should keep the means to restore the machine to the as-supplied condition because that may be what Dell support want you to do. Did you get a Win 7 installation disc or do you need to create your own?
