I have a replacement keyboard on the way too. I really am liking everything about this system except for my keyboard not being as solid as I think it should be.

I'm not expecting much from the replacement. My original one actually has a broken left shift key, and that's why i'm replacing it. I'm considering cramming a thin aluminum plate in there late on to reduce flex.

Like I said, just bend the keyboard a bit so that it goes downward in the laptop, as it should.

Thanks for the tips. Had to agree to a license agreement before the device settings would appear though. Underclocking didn't seem to do anything for the temperatures. The minimum allowed clockspeed is still higher than the lowest clock speed set by the nvidia power manager. The only effect of underclocking seems to be to cap the top speed to the indicated values. Even then, it seems to be a soft cap since the clocks jump up above those values once in a while (as reported by the nvidia system monitor).

On a different note, I tried the new touchpad drivers. Not much different than the old ones except initiating scrolling (and also circular scrolling) seems to be a bit easier, although this could also be due to me getting better at scrolling with this touchpad.

Ok, you need to lower all bars down to minimum. If you still don't see temperature difference than it's probably because it's the CPU that heats up. Remember on that this like many other laptops, they have 1 heatsink for all processors.

I am surprised that your lowest speed of that you downclock your GPU is higher than the one form PowerMizer. It should be the same.

As for the upclock, it could be that powermizer fight with your overclock profile, and can be disabled with my free tool: Nv GPU Pro. What you can also do with my tool, is allow powerMizer to be turn off only when plug-in or only when on battery.

THanks, the sliders were at the minimum values. I tried disabling the powermizer but that had the effect of not allowing the clock speeds to the bare minimum (i.e. the ones set by the power management)

The minimum values allowed by the sliders are 151,197,367 for the graphics, memory and processor clocks respectively. The ones that are set by the power manager on idle are 135, 135, 270.

If you want to experiment on something, you can edit your overclock profile file (C:\Users\<ACCOUNT NAME>\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles) with notepad, and put powermizer values. Once done, save, and double click on the profile file to load them.

    Everyone,

I received my E6410 about a week ago and thus far I am pretty happy with it. That being said, I was wondering how I could check whether the Samsung 128GB SSD that come with it supports TRIM? If there any easy way to verify? I am using Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

I have read that if TRIM isn't supported then it's going to grind to a halt and I might elect to return it if it doesn't support TRIM, as I'm not as tech savy as everyone here and I don't have time (due to my business) to deal with major issues that could be caused by a lack of TRIM in the future.

Thanks for everyone's help. This will likely determine whether I keep the laptop (which I would much prefer to do).

    Jeremy

i hate to be a broken record, but jeremy, do you find your laptop to become uncomfortably hot when used on your lap?

First post here but I've been following the threads on latitudes e6400/e6410's for a while. I finally made my purchase last month and got an e6410 with the core i5 520m and Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics. OS is Win 7 Pro.

Originally I was looking at Dell e6410, HP Elitebooks and Lenovo Thinkpad T410s. Went with Dell because I get good deals from them because I buy a lot of Dell stuff for work. I didn't like the Lenovo because of the blah look and feel. I really liked the HP but more expensive. I have been an HP guy forever but thought I would give dell a try.

So far everything is working great. I haven't even done a clean OS install yet. I thought I would have trouble with Dell drivers/software but none so far.

I got the 520M for better battery life and it seems to fit my needs. I use it on my lap a lot and have not noticed any heat issues. Fan is always on but doesn't seem to be too loud although the heat coming out the vent on the side is quite warm. It idles around 55C and goes up to around 70-80C under load.

I do have a docking problem though. I have a dual monitor dock setup and when I dock the computer it never seems to get the resolution correct and also doesn't turn on the second display. This happens when I put the computer into hibernation undocked and then dock the laptop and power up out of hibernation. The only fix I have is to start the computer undocked and then dock it after it has started up. Then it turns on both displays and applies the correct resolution. A little annoying since my last HP didn't have any problems like this. Hopefully it's something that will be fixed with a future video driver update.

Other than that everything's been great! I look forward to being a part of this thread.
