Thanks for everyone's feedback re. the SSD space. I checked Disk Management and it turns out that there is a restore partition that is ~14GB, which accounts for most of the discrepancy.

Would anyone happen to know how to remove the partition? I tried removing it via Disk Management and it says that Windowns cannot perform the action?

    Thanks for your help,
    Jeremy

How do you guys stop the humming sound from the voltage regulators? Have anyone tried replacing them?

    Thanks,

If Windows can't remove it, I bet Linux could. Download Ubuntu livecd, burn, and boot from it. You don't even have to install it and it doesn't make any changes to your system. Ubuntu's partition management is very good compared to the one in windows. It is called GParted if i remember correctly. Obviously there are also 3rd party applications but i have always booted Ubuntu, if i have had the need to mess with partitions.

This advice is good. However, I disagree that Ubuntu's partition management is very good -- actually, I find the one on the Windows CDs better. For example, the Ubuntu installation doesn't guarantee to the user that resizing a partition doesn't necessarily delete its contents. At least it didn't the last time I installed Ubuntu (almost a year ago).

In other words: make sure you know what you are doing, especially when using Linux. Even if with a Live CD, if you make changes to your partitions they are irreversible. Still, deleting a partition isn't that hard nor dangerous as long as you choose the right one, and you can use Windows to enlarge the remaining partition (this is the part GPardEd doesn't warn you about).

The keyboard for this thing is fairly disappointing. I can only liken it to a spongy mess. I have the backlit one, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I can type at full speed on it, but it causes me cognitive mental pain. Hopefully with time some of the key resistance will go away or i will get used to it. But for now, I'm not a big fan. There is also keyboard flex across the board, which, combined with the fairly high key depression resistance, only increases the spongy feel.

I've heard the new T410 has a fair amount of keyboard flex too, so I guess there's just no winning anymore. When dell send me my replacement keyboard, I think I might attempt to strengthen it myself.

On the E6400 (which uses the same keyboard) most people agreed that the backit one is the better of the two options. It is definitely one of the best notebook keyboards that I have ever used. There's a little bounce to the right of middle where it sits on the optical drive.

It is possible that if Dell send you a replacement then it will be one of the older keyboards.

There has been discussion, whether Latitude ON FLASH precludes WWAN or vice versa.

In Dell's Shop (at least in the german shop for big companies), you can order Latitude ON FLASH and the Dell 5540 HSDPA module. In fact, I will order such a laptop in a few days, and of course I hope it will include antennas for the HSDPA module ;-)

    1. does Latitude E6410 have an S/PDIF connector, e.g. optical audio out?
I really need it because of DAC I am using which accept this as only audio input.

    2. I have a feeling that in July Dell will refresh Latitude lines, this refresh seems very subtle and Latitudes are getting older, any news on that front? I can't for example order this model with backlit keyboard in UK.

I would be very surprised about a refresh within the next few months. The E6410 was only launched in March.

Dell's UK site has never offered the backlit keyboard option except on the large enterprise configuration. You can phone up if you want this option (and most likely get a better price at the same time). Or you can order the E6400 backlit keyboard off ebay and fit it yourself.
