Nice. I wish there was a straightforward option for me. That's the only sore thumb on this otherwise beautiful machine.

Attached is my machine with a few chrome windows open. So I think your range is fine.

Indeed. I hate the screen. The vertical viewing angle for me is the worst part.

Cable should work fine. I went with a Dell U3011. Love it but would definitely like it to have higher height adjustment. I will have to buy a good heavy duty arm once I have some more money flow again. Wish it was LED like the new 30" because quite frankly it is far too warm already in the summer without this 30" heater running.

Windows 7 is what I am running currently but I do miss some of the Windows 8 features and do not miss some of the others. Guess I am just trying to wait out the metro interface.

Here are the temps I measured on my unit with an IR temp gun.

so I recently put on on Arctic MX-4 (cheaper than arctic silver and NOT electrically conductive, so you wont screw it up... and much much better) as well as changed the fan on my E6410 using a cheap fan bought off ebay. My laptop is running much, much quieter and cooler.

I also went and got myself a replacement backlit keyboard from ebay - my laptop feels new !!

Nice thread. I've read through the last 30 pages but haven't seen anyone confirm if 16GB of ram works with the i7 620m processor in these.

    i7 620m
    A12 bios

So far, it works fine with Windows 8.1 pro. Just missing driver for the broadcom fingerprint scanner and a SMO8800 device which I haven't bothered to look into yet since the system looks to be working without issue at the moment.

I'm on the fence about getting these to try from Amazon ... saw a dell forum post where the dell tech did sort of mention it should work but the OP did not respond after that.

Hey guys I'm having troubles with a used E6410 I bought. When I put pressure on the bottom of the laptop I lose the backlight. I have posted a video HERE. In the video it looks like the screen completely turns black but IRL it is just the backlight.
It seems like a possible connection issue. Does anyone know where or how the screen backlight is connected in a laptop?

The display connector is on the underside of the machine about where the F1/2/3 keys are... I'm not sure that a loose connection would cause the backlight to go out, but I do see that cable getting kind of frayed a lot of times, so there might be an intermittent short?

How do I access this cable? Can I go through the bottom or will I have to dissemble more?

You only need to remove the bottom access cover to reseat the connector. If you are going to replace the cable, the port cover (remove the screw on the back and slide the plastic off), LCD assembly, bezel, and LCD need to be removed.
