Check for dryness or cracking. If there's dust on the pad, dip a finger in rubbing alcohol and wipe it away.

Will do. I don't think I saw any of that, but admittedly, I wasn't paying close attention. I did wipe it with the Arctic silver solution 2. I'll check and see again later.

I might order the copper shim anyway. Hopefully it's <$5 on ebay or something like that.

I'm considering those cheap korean 1440p panels. Anyone have any experience driving those from the 6410 with 3100M?

What is 1440p? There seems to be a shift back to LVDS, even though the E6410 was an early adopter of eDP, so it may be hard to find eDP panels.

    1440p : 2560x1440

I'm specifically referring to these (and their variants) Matte Free Express x Star DP2710LED 27" 2560x1440 Samsung PLS Panel Monitor | eBay

The thing is from a quick google, it seems that the displayport to displayport supports upto 2560x1440, but not displayport to dual DVI. It has to be Dual link dual DVI or something and that dock is an expensive affair.

I'll look into this a little more.

Ah, I see. I thought you were talking about 1440x900 internal LCD, so I mentioned eDP. For external monitor, you'll need to use DisplayPort to DisplayPort.

Yes. Although I'm not averse to trying out the internal LCD replacement either. I wonder if there are any options available for that (perhaps IPS) even.

Due to the eDP connector, it's highly unlikely. Very happy with the IPS panel in my E6220 though. ;)

Haha, I will have to scratch that itch somehow. Did you get yours with the laptop or did you put it in later?

It's not an option, so I had to find someone to machine the hinges for me to make it fit...
