Alright. I'll look around a bit and see if I can find some information. I suspect it should be fine though.

Installed Lubuntu 13.04 on the Samsung 250 EVO. This thing is flying faster than most ultrabooks today. It feels markedly faster than the 2012 Macbook Air i7 2.0.

I will play around with TRIM settings to decide what the best course of action is, but so far loving this.

The ebay seller was kind enough to refund me a nice chunk of change for the misunderstanding of windows licensing. I explained to him how Genuine disks do not imply legal licenses and he was thankful.

Still undecided if I want to get 7 or 8.1. The only reason I need it for is Lightroom. I can do two things, dual boot into Vista Home Basic (what the laptop legally shipped with) or purchase a copy of windows and use a virtual machine.

The third alternative would be to forego Lightroom altogether. This should be hard.

I wouldn't bother with Vista, especially if it's Home Basic. ;)

Yeah, that's not the best choice, but it's already there and it's free. :D If Windows 7 Pro licenses were a little cheaper I'd have just picked up a Retail version. The reason I mentioned Vista Home basic is because I literally need it for one program - Lightroom.

Apart from that, the multitouch support in all these ubuntu based OSes is awesome (has been for a while.) The same trackpad was miserable on windows 7 with the updated drivers from Dell's page. Think this one's for keeps. :)

Thinking of putting some Arctic Silver 5 on the CPU. The fan seems to be on fairly often (albeit not too loud).

The OEM stuff needs to go, especially if it shipped with the system. ;)

If you're still under warranty, request a replacement heatsink for thermal pads.

Naah, not under warranty. I'll try my luck with them.

It's not too bad, especially coming from a 6510 quad core, but I know it doesn't need to be that hot either. :) I did install cpufreqtools and 'ondemand' the CPU coasts at 1199MHz which is perfect. Still snappy.

I'll see how it goes. I have been thinking of getting an E6510 again.. mainly due to the screen, but somehow I get the feeling that purchasing 'seller refurbished' E6510 is probably not going to get me the same quality as what I got from Dell.

I do find the colorspace on the 6410 lacking and the black levels are rather high. (Still deciding on which external monitor, but if I get the 6510, I may not get an external monitor.)

Unless you replace the screen in an E6510, it won't be much better than the E6410. Still the same cheap TN panel, just bigger...

That's assuming that all ebay resellers use the same cheap screen. The one I had from Dell in my earlier 6510 was extremely good. Notebookcheck review confirms that. I can tell the difference.

Sitting here with a finger trained on the buy it now. :D Sadly, I don't think it's a good idea mainly because I *should* get an external monitor nonetheless. I really love the 6410 form factor and the added battery life is a welcome addition.

It doesn't have anything to do with eBay. Dell uses screens from LG Philips, Samsung, and AUO, so it's by luck that your previous E6510 had a better screen. No guarantees on another E6510.

From what I've seen with the E6410, the AUO screen is decent and the Samsung is terrible.
