I just stressed a docked 6400 running A19 with 2 monitors, and it still underclocks, but it only dropped to 6x, and it seemed to clock back up fast. I'm still testing on 2 6400s to see if it is fixed it or not.

Appreciate it, Bill. :) But, TBH, you aren't the first one who's promised me to look into it.

    Yet, I have some faith.

So, the Direct2Dell blog is saying it's taken care of with the new BIOS, which it does look like it's working with the few test machines I've used.

I take issue with the wording on the blog though - "Under normal conditions and use (i.e. a typical office environment and running a typical set of applications), customers won't see any issue at all." and "Those issues arose under more extreme thermal and usage models."

That's just absurd. I should be able to dock a laptop and use it for more than an hour and not have it deemed "extreme" usage.

If that's "extreme" usage, then it's time for our business to change our ordering.

I searched the D2D blog but couldn't find this. Could you give us a link? Thanks.

Yeah... the new A19 BIOS screws up the chronic DPC latency problem I am having on my Latitude E6400 even more. The red readings are when I use Fn+Arrow Keys to change the display brightness. See for yourself:

Damn you Dell, damn you to hell. Never again will I buy a piece of crap computer from you.:mad:

    The Direct2Dell post is here.

I'm running A18 in my E6500 now and left 7zip benchmark and ATItool 3D testing tool running for about an hour in the dock this morning and it only just started throttling to 66% toward the end.

I think this probably is a fairly extreme use case.... so for so good. But as has been said I'm not getting too excited just yet.

Hopefully your faith is not misplaced. I'm on it. I think we are already looking for root cause. Just curious, what CPU do you have?

What does Latency Checker do if you do not initiate any ACPI.sys functions? What happens to audio streams if you just let them run with no other user induced actions? Did ACPI.sys functions correspond with red spikes on previous BIOS revisions?

One yellow bar every 10 seconds, one red bar every 20 seconds, averaging 400-600us; especially when I am using the internal mic with Skype. Sometimes latency readings are not too high (from this laptop's standards anyway), and remain under 1000us, which is deplorable considering the purpose I use this laptop for.

Pops, clicks, crackling and stuttering, using VLC. Even when the laptop is relatively happy (max latency readings under 1000us, all bars green for atleast 2 minutes), I hear pops and clicks.

Well, aside from the intermittent red spikes mentioned in the first answer, changing screen brightness did not cause any spikes. My previous BIOS version was A17.

OK. Thanks. I'll take that information to the team when next we meet. I will post back when they fill me in on anything.
