What is the maximum / minimum CPU throttling % everyone has set under Vista / Windows 7 power management?

For power saver on battery I set it to 0% to 20%
Power saver on plug-in, I use default.
Balance and High Performance is at default.

So now a little more than 3 weeks later after getting my motherboard replaced, I'm again experiencing throttling issues on my Dell E6500.

Any ideas? This seems like a futile effort, nor do I want to keep wasting my time waiting for a technician replacing stuffs and reconfiguring my computer each time.

Did they replace only the motherboard? In my case Dell support suggested to replace motherboard, heatsink, fan and CPU. In fact the repair man is coming today to do it... Fingers crossed. I hope it will work but I am sceptical. If it doesn't help then I'll start looking for a new computer...

By the way, it was suggested to me by other users on this forum to undervolt the CPU to lower the general heat of the CPU. I followed their advice and did this and I'm really happy with it. It makes a real difference however only when using the laptop undocked and thus unattached to any external screens (basicallly the fan only comes up under load whilst before it was running nearly all the time even when completely idle). Unfortunately when I'm docked using dual monitors the fan still blows as hard as before.

They did change the heatsink and fan this time around along with the motherboard.

If that method doesn't work while it's docked and connected to another monitor then it's pretty useless to me since that's how I use it most often.

I think the effect is still there but it's just not enough to offset the additional heat produced by the system. Nevertheless I'd suggest to give it a try though...

    Hey!

Looks like JoeB7, on the Dell Forums, might have finally received a pre-release BIOS update from Dell. Apparently he says that it has improved the fan function (more gradients of speed) and get this: NO THROTTLING! I would really like to get my hands on this BIOS, so if anyone knows how to contact JoeB7 to get him to post the BIOS to some site where other people can download it and test it, I would be very appreciative.

I can't seem to contact him directly, since I tried contact information on both forums, but I can't seem to find any. When I spoke to a Dell rep, she claimed to know absolutely nothing about the new pre-release BIOS.

    Thanks!
