The fixes and enhancements on A15 according to the drivers page doesn't mention anything about throttling being addressed. Do we have to wait for A16?

How about the fancontrol, is there any differences when the fan kicks in and for how long.?

I am afraid not. JoeB7 phoned his contact at Dell and reported on the Dell Forum that A16 is already finished and is currently in the testing stage; it might be released in four weeks time, but WILL NOT address the throttling issue. According to him, the EARLIEST we can hope that Dell addresses this throttling issue is possibly a preA17 BIOS update.

Well, I had my motherboard replaced and it seemed to fix the problem. I didn't have the throttling issue except for maybe once.

But in return, the technician broke my sd card slot and bluetooth... so they're sending another technician after having me run through all their diagnostics and format/reinstalls again. What a waste of time.

Yesterday I got my E6400's ACPI temperature up to 70C without any throttling.

So far, I haven't had any throttling since upgrading to BIOS A15.

BIOS A15 did not improve my situation. At all... it is really killing me. Last week I've added a second monitor and now when the system is docked the throttling has become even more frequent. It's becoming a real pain in the neck. I'm thinking of replacing the laptop altogether. This week I've had to to reboot at least twice a day, as rebooting is the fastest way to get the system back up its feet.

That sounds like a bad motherboard entirely. I suggest a full system replacement.

Does the E6400 with the Intel GPU have a constantly-running fan?

I don't believe either configuration (Nvidia or Intel) should have the fan kick in all the time. Are you sure it's not your 7200RPM HDD, as some models produce a fan like noise.

I don't want to get off topic, but my E6500 with the Nvidia kicks the fan on pretty soon after booting up and never stops, even when it's idling with temps right above ambient lol. It's a quiet fan, that I can only hear in a quiet room... but still, my work D630 is silent.

On the topic of throttling, I haven't experienced the throttling issue at super low temperatures.
