    I'm not sure how to use RMClock to override the throttling(everything in the Throttling tab is greyed out and the chipset type says Unknown). I tried the bubbles screensaver and it does not throttle my system.

    @Asymmetricblog,
    Doesn't mean the multiplier gets reduced that you reduce performance. It depends on the clock and voltage. Sometimes its reduces for stability purposes as the voltage was increased.
    Also, you probably have Nvidia power Manager kick in. I suggest to disable it. My tool (www.nvgpupro.com) allows you to have it disabled when your system is plug-in, but have it enabled when on battery so that battery life is not suffered by this. My software doesn't need to be installed and ran, nor does it modify the drivers or system.

    58C? Is VERY low... you should not have any slowdowns, other than Nvidia Power Management (PowerMizer) kick in when you are idle, not temps.

    GPU only at 58? Do you actually notice a performance difference? I have been playing games and had my GPU over 90C and it still ran great.

    Just read the full thread of "Latitude E6400 Owner's Lounge".
    Of course, it's only on those who reported the problem over there.

    That's not so encouraging :(. Sounds like that person may have had some other issues though.

    Has anyone experienced the problem with the T series CPU's, such as the T9550 or T9580 (these are 2.66ghz and 2.93ghz cpu's respectively)? What I'm wondering is if these CPU's use a different BIOS and different thermal tables, or if the BIOS/thermal tables are the same for the P and T series CPU's. Does anyone know the answer?

    My laptop has shipped and will be here Tuesday, so I'm planning on trying the exact tests here:

    I'll see if I get the same problems as that guy did.

    T series are uses more Watts so more heat. I strongly suggest the P series, unless you need the higher L2 cache, and dont' care about battery life.
    I don't know about your BIOS question, but I don't thing so.

    I went for the higher CPU because I can make good use of the extra processing power (I write a fair amount of algorithm type code which is pretty CPU intensive) and I run in docked mode most of the time, so battery life wasn't as important to me. I did get the 9-cell battery to offset the extra power requirements.

    So thanks for the tip, but yes, I definitely took your point into consideration :). I had a 28% off coupon though, so I figured I would get the best processor I could. I also want to keep the laptop for the next 4 years, so that was another reason for going with the high end processor.

    I called and they're replacing the motherboard. She said that she's had two other cases like mine. I have the Nvidia.
