Have you confirmed that it is the same problem? (A constant CPU throttling when the ACPI sensor hits 55c?) Do you have it until restart?

Goodbytes: Im not sure I agree (or understand) I know that the GPU temp was one cause of my earlier slowdowns, but if I have a bad cooling (contact) with the GPU i think it actually makes the other parts cooler as the heat isnt transfered (read my experience in the "cooling guide thread) So i think a copper mod could make my system temps too high and cause a CPU throttle, if the threshold is reached (wherever that is with the Nvidia card)

I played Half Life 2 and the chipset temperature reached 55C, throttling the system. After exiting Half Life 2 for a couple minutes, the throttling stopped and the chipset temperature was 46/47C.

I think the chipset is designed to operate with a die temperature of up to 100C so I don't understand why Dell set the throttle temperature at 55C. It's obviously too limiting for those of us with the X4500MHD and Dell can safely raise the throttle temperature to something more reasonable(around 70-80C should be good).

This is exactly what I and some other folks here are experiencing.

Have you tried using RMClock to override the throttling? Can you also try and run the bubbles screensaver and see if it throttles too?

To those that are having the overheating with the NVidia, how long have you had your E6400? I'm wondering if Dell fixed something on the newer models since some of the folks here with newer ones don't have the problem.

I'm still really wondering if I made the right decision purchasing this model, there are some real horror stories about this overheating! I guess I can return it if it overheats and get the Lenovo T400.

Well I did not get the overheating issue, meaning no throttling. And I have my laptop since November. In fact, I even overclock it when I am about to play games using Nvidia System tool (it uses this profile thing, of that you can overclock while the system is running, and if your overclock is too much it will fail (or overheats) to perform the task or just crash and restart the drivers).

    [edit]
Oh, remember that people that doesn't have a problem usually don't complain or talk about it.

I have the problem now. When the GPU gets in the high 50s, it goes to 1500mhz ( I have a 2.5 system). I can't play games. Should I call Dell? This seems completely unacceptable.

You mean you have Intel GPU right?
If so, then I don't think Dell can do anything.

I'm relatively sure. I need to restart each time to make it go away. I have a track with Dell technical support I will keep you updated. The problem is better now that I
    - have removed the dust as suggested earlier in the thread.
    - have cleared this problem with the Wave trusted drive software http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=327744
