I received my M2400 today...the lid is definitely metal as it feels "cool".

BTW, the E6400 cost more over here, that's why i purchased the M2400 with the T9400 CPU...and moreover, i like the lid cover on the precision :)

    Regards,

    Jon Lau

Yes it is cool to the touch if the computer isn't on, but it still looks terrible! If it looked good in plastic... Now how about they replace the cover with something that looks like their Dell logos? Now THAT would look classy.. they need to make it scratchproof though :D

Well good thing I don't have to look at it while I'm processing :) Using these laptop covers as gpu coolers could work :D Yes, it gets a little warm... I think... well it's definitely not cool after an hour :) Maybe it's because I use dual laptops and the other laptop is blowing hot air all over the back of the other one

The new Precision in October is the M6400. It's a 17'' monster.

I'd like to bump this thread since I hesitate between those two models and I'm going to order my laptop really soon! If you have one of those models (or both?) or followed threads about them, your input would be appreciated!

    Please note:

    - I don't care about the look/lid/color
    - I have no problem paying an extra 200-300$ for a model or another
    - I'm not a gamer but I want my laptop to be able to support any application requiring some extra visual processing. I don't think the graphical card difference between both models is a big concern for me. Any of those nVidia cards will do the job for me, I'm pretty sure.

My main concern about those two models is stability.

Which one has proven to be the more stable one?
Which one has the less driver problems?
    Less BSOF?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

If your visual application uses openGL api,get the M2400.....if it doesn't,get the E6400....they're identicle apart from lid and graphics firmware.

Are you saying that all problems present in the m2400 are also present in the e6400 (and those in e6400 present in m2400)? For example, the bad default sounding of the m2400 reported in this thread also have to apply to the e6400?

What about the Certified ISV Technology of the m2400? It doesn't change anything?

    Thanks for your help!
