    A bit of Offtopic:
Doesn't changing the hard drive void the laptop's warranty?

Nope, the warranty is okay as long as you do not damage the notebook during the install. But Dell will not support the new hard drive.

E6400 and M2400 are built on the same chassis, so they should be the same build quality wise. Only difference is the lid and graphics card. One thing, though. Those who have received their units have commented that the lid on the M2400 seems to be plastic while E6400 is metal.

For what is worth I went back and re-read the tech specs on the M2400. It says the Chasis and lid are magnesium alloy. I have a D620 and could understand someone being mistaken. From looking at the D620 you would not know that it is not plastic.

It would be nice if it had a metal touch to it. That's what defines metal. Does your D620 happen to feel like metal though? :)

I read that M2400 tech specs too. But the M2400 owners commented that the lid just doesn't have that "metal feel" in it, as oppose to E6400 owners, like John Ratsey.

I know it's quite disappointing, considering that it's a Precision. Anyway, I only considered that Precision for a while because it was cheaper than the E6400 for some time. Despite that, I always had my eyes on that sexy all-black Latitude E6400. :)

    Hi,
I've used this site for years without having to post, however this time my search ability has failed me!!

I'm in a similar boat deciding between the two, and this seems the best thread on this topic.

Function over form for me - so I don't really care about the lid (however having seen both the E6400 wins hands down on this point - that wavy lid looks better in photo's than in real life IMHO).
I would rather get the M2400 as it has better graphics.

    My problems/questions are (UK/European spec):

    1. E6400 has option of 8GB RAM, while M2400 only 4GB RAM? (yet the spec sheet says 8GB is possible for both models)

    2. The M2400 has no option for bluetooth and 3G/mobile broadband? I read above that bluetooth is included - but how about the 3G? This is critical to me. Could I upgrade the M2400 regardless (here I need someone to open up the back of a M2400 and let me know if there is the right connection! :)

    3. You can get a "slice"(?) battery (one that fits on the bottom in the docking port) for the E6400 - will the same fit the M2400?

Sorry if these questions are obvious - but I've looked at so many models now T400, Sony's etc., that it is now getting confusing!

    Appreciate your help :D

    1. Yes it is possible. Sometimes not all options are listed. You need 64-bit to use past 3.5GB though, or server class OS.

    2. There is WWAN, you might need to ask the sales rep to add it in for you. Again, the choice may not be listed.

    3. It should fit. The base is the same for both machines as far as I know.

Thanks for the super speedy reply - clinches the deal for me on the M2400.

    Really appreciated!

Actually according to another thread on here (I think someone wanted to replace the LCD from the E6500 and M4400), those chassis' were different, and I can only speculate but the chassis for the E6400 and M2400 will not be identical either.
